cycling: Istrian Spring Trophy #P: German double victory by Märkl & Mayrhofer

March 14, 2019 by Michael Behringer

Markl Mayrhofer Sunweb Istrian Spring Trophy

Cycling: The Sunweb Development Team got off to an almost perfect start in the Istrian Spring Trophy. With Niklas Märkl and Marius Mayrhofer, a double victory was achieved in the prologue.

5 Germans among the top 9

Today the pros were allowed to curl up at the 16th Istrian Spring Trophy in a prologue that was only 2,0 kilometers long. Large gaps should therefore not come about in Umag, but great joy. Because the Sunweb Development Team has brought in a top result with a very young troupe. Victory went to Niklas Märkl ahead of teammate Marius Mayrhofer. Only fractions of a second were decisive. Because the top 6 – including Leon Heinschke, another teammate in fifth place – were measured within one second. The Herrmann Radteam will also be satisfied with the start of the four-day tour of Croatia. Leon Echtermann was sixth, Lennart Jung ninth. With Fabian Lienhard (IAM Excelsior) in eighth place and Daniel Auer (Maloja Pushbikers) in tenth place, the Swiss and Austrian riders were also able to place in the top 10.

Wow! Three young German talents from the #DevoTeamSunweb in the top 5 at the #IstrianSpringTrophy! #KeepChallenging #WeSindTeamSunweb🇩🇪 pic.twitter.com/tlf0zzMD4n
