Other cycling: Six Day Berlin #5: Wim Stroetinga & Robbe Ghys take the lead

29 January 2019 by Michael Behringer

SIX DAY BERLIN

Track cycling: On the fifth day of Six Day Berlin, last year's winner Wim Stroetinga and his partner Robbe Ghys took the lead for the first time. The Dutchman and the Belgian are now one lap ahead of their four pursuers. Meanwhile, sprinter Maximilian Levy is facing overall victory despite not having won today. The stayers have now entered the Berlin six-day race. Daniel Harnisch won the first stage.

Six Day Berlin: Five teams with chances of winning before the last day

Last year's winner Wim Stroetinga took the lead at the Six Day Berlin with his partner Robbe Ghys. Already in the first hunt of the day, the Dutchman and the Belgian made their mark. They managed to win a lap against all four chasing duos, which they didn't give up the whole day. Nevertheless, it remained and remains exciting, because the other competitions each went to different teams - as before Day #4 of the Berlin Six-Day Race. The team elimination was secured by the Poles Wojciech Pszczolarski and Daniel Staniszewski. Somewhat surprisingly, the Dutchmen Nick Stöpler and Maikel Zijlaard triumphed in the Derny. In the first part of the 500 meter time trial, Germany's Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt were ahead, before the second chase of the day went to Austria's Andreas Graf and Andreas Müller.

1. Wim Stroetinga (NED) / Robbe Ghys (BEL) 372 points / clear round
2. Roger Kluge (GER) / Theo Reinhardt (GER) 358 points / -1 lap
3. Marc Hester (DEN) / Jesper Mørkøv (DEN) 357 points / -1 lap
4. Wojciech Pszczolarski (POL) / Daniel Staniszewski (POL) 355 points / -1 lap
5. Andreas Graf (AUT) / Andreas Müller (AUT) 324 points / -1 lap

Maximilian Levy is facing the overall victory of the sprinters

In the sprinters, Maximilian Levy is 35 points ahead of his third overall victory in a row at the Six Day Berlin. For the first time, however, the Russian Denis Dmitriev was able to make up some ground. He won the keirin while Maximilian Levy didn't win today. In the sprint and the 250 meter time trial, Russian Shane Perkins proved to be the fastest man on the oval today.

1. Maximilian Levy (GER) 238 points
2. Denis Dmitriev (RUS) 203 points
3.Shane Perkins (RUS) 189 points
4. Nikita Shurshin (RUS) 153 points
5. Anton Höhne (GER) 148 points
6. François Pervis (FRA) 134 points
