cycling: Product news: Focus Izalco Max – More than just faster!

30 November 2018 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With the new Focus Izalco Max Disc, the Izalco success story from Focus Bikes should be further advanced. The manufacturer promises to have made the lightest disc racing bike even faster. True to the motto #morethanjustthefastet!

In order to put this promise into practice, the entire concept of the Focus Izalco Max Disc had to be fundamentally changed and revised. Because simply aerodynamic optimization is not enough if you want the best performance. Weight also plays a key role in being the fastest.

Focus Izalco Max Disc – Optimization in the wind tunnel

The foundation for the Focus Izalco Max was laid in the wind tunnel. The engineers have fundamentally revised all tubes and improved them in several steps in the wind tunnel. Every surface has been challenged to provide the best mix of aerodynamics and light weight. The result is an interplay of comb-tail profiles, hidden features and balanced proportions. On paper, this combination means improved aerodynamic performance by 6 percent. This makes you faster on the bike with every ride and saves a lot of energy, no matter how fast you ride.

Focus Izalco Max Disc - Tidy cockpit

All cables run internally in the specially developed aero stem. In order to compensate for the resulting slightly higher position, the carbon stem was designed with -15° negative. This ensures a perfect driving experience and at the same time optimal aerodynamics. The advantages merge in the optically successful form. The stem is available in five lengths from 80 to 120 mm.

Focus Izalco Max Disc – Fast and Safe

On the one hand, the fastest thru-axle in the world RAT has been further improved. Easier handling and a more aerodynamic design meet the increased requirements of the Focus Izalco Max. With 160 mm brake discs at the front and rear, you ensure safe and absolutely reliable braking performance, especially at high speeds.

Focus Izalco Max Disc - Aerodynamic and Comfortable

Aerodynamics and comfort are usually in direct conflict with each other. But not with the new Focus Izalco Max, because the aerodynamic carbon seat post has a D-profile with a 15 mm offset - for the best mix of ergonomics and comfort. To maintain the optimal seating position, the seat tube has been moved forward so the effective offset is only 2mm. This allows you to enjoy the comfort of a seat post with a 15 mm offset without sacrificing a modern race seating position. There are also titanium screws that reduce the weight.

Focus Izalco Max Disc – Flexible and Customizable

For as many adjustment options as possible, the izalco Max comes with a standard format aerobar. The handlebar height can be easily adjusted using a two-part special spacer. The cable integration from stem to handlebar is seamlessly continued internally. This stem/handlebar combo can be easily removed for safe storage of the bike. With an adapter, your own bike computer can be easily attached.

The geometry of the Focus Izalco Max, which has been crowned with numerous Tour de France stage victories and has proven itself many times over, has been slightly modernized and adapted to today's daily demands of racing drivers. Also important: The geometry of sizes XXS and XXL is specially adapted to the needs of small and large riders. With MAX Carbon Technology and cable integration
lays the foundation for the best mix of aerodynamics and low weight. the slender,
aerodynamic tubes complete the harmonious design language. Everything from a single source.

The Focus Izalco Max comes in a total of 6 versions. It is important to differentiate between three models of the higher quality 9 series and the 8 series.
