Cycling: Curious rules at the end of the season. Anyone who has already rolled through the rules of the UCI cycling association for professional races knows that almost nothing is left to chance here. So far, this has also included the length of the socks – but apparently the previous rule was not precise enough and has now been further specified. A nice example of what amusing blossoms such sets of rules can sometimes produce.
One or the other must have been aware that the UCI had already limited the maximum permissible sock height in their comprehensive set of rules for road professionals for several years. So far it has simply said: "Socks and overshoes must not go past the middle of the leg in competition." So far - so clear. Or? If you are already shaking your head at so much regulation mania, the UCI is now serving the cherry on the cake with a new rule change. Under paragraph 1.3.033 it is now written: "In competition, socks and overshoes must not extend more than halfway between the ankle and the middle of the fibula head."
So finally there is clarity. The haggling over centimeters in the sock length should thus come to an end. Whether the sock length will be checked with a special measuring device before the start of the race is not yet known.
