cycling: Cycling Transfers: Fernando Gaviria joins UAE Team Emirates

25 October 2018 by Michael Behringer

Gaviria San Juan

Cycling: At the end of October, the merry-go-round continues to rotate around cycling transfers. None other than top sprinter Fernando Gaviria changes the team. The Colombian turns his back on his team, Quick-Step Floors. In 2019 he drives for the UAE Team Emirates.

Gaviria is leaving Quick-Step Floors for financial reasons

The fans of the racing bike stable Quick-Step Floors can take a deep breath: a few weeks ago, a new main sponsor was landed in the form of the Belgian window profile manufacturer Deceuninck. In the coming season, the team will therefore do its rounds under the name Deceuninck Quick-Step - but without top sprinter Fernando Gaviria. The 24-year-old has now announced that the persistent rumors about him are actually true. He drives for UAE Team Emirates in 2019. Despite the signing of a new main sponsor, this change comes about for financial reasons. However, the Quick-Step Floors team will be seen in the mass sprints without Fernando Gaviria in the future. With Elia Viviani, Alvaro Hodeg and Fabio Jakobsen, there are still at least three contenders for fast stage finishes in the team.

A three-year deal for the Colombian @FndoGaviria!
🎙️"With the new jersey, I'm not going to hide my desires and I want the biggest wins..Thanks to the UAE Team Emirates for the faith it put in me"
