cycling: New partnerships from 2019: Giant & CCC and Cervélo & Sunweb

8 October 2018 by Michael Behringer

Giant

Cycling: Every year from July the transfer carousel rotates in cycling. The changes not only affect the drivers, but also the sponsors and outfitters. It is precisely in these areas that we can expect some changes for 2019. Among others, the pros from the Sunweb, Dimension Data and CCC teams ride new racing machines. The outfitters Giant, Cervélo and BMC swap teams with each other.

Giant is now Greg Van Avermaet's working tool

Simon Geschke can be happy: He doesn't have to adjust to a new racing machine after his change. In 2018 he was still wearing the jersey of the Sunweb team, but in the coming season he will be driving for the newly founded team CCC. Since the outfitter Giant is also making this change, Simon Geschke doesn't have to get used to it. But all other professionals do. Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet, for example, has been on the BMC racing machines for years and will be equipped by Giant for the 2019 season, as will all his teammates from the new CCC team. However, the corresponding drivers should not be less successful with it. After all, Team Sunweb can look back on an extremely successful time with Giant. Among other things, Tom Dumoulin won the Giro d'Italia in 2018 and at the Tour de France they secured the green jersey with Michael Matthews and the polka dot jersey with Warren Barguil.

Dimension Data rides BMC, Sunweb rides Cervélo

The tree-change-yourself game will be perfect when we look at the other outfitter changes. BMC will not only exit BMC/CCC as the main sponsor, but also as a supplier. However, the Swiss company will not disappear from professional cycling. In the future we will see the racing machines at Dimension Data. The package from Cervélo is still there. In 2019, Cervélo will be the outfitter of...? That's right: Sunweb! This means that the outfitters mentioned will remain in professional cycling - they will only swap teams. The spectators have to get used to slightly different jerseys. While Dimension Data used the é on the sleeves as a distinctive sign, Sunweb's jerseys were identified by the Giant lettering. It is self-explanatory that the BMC team attracted attention because of BMC. So in future we will recognize Sunweb by the é, Dimension Data by BMC and CCC by Giant. But don't worry: we'll get used to it!
