cycling: Product news: Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 – Best hold thanks to Velcro

September 22, 2018 by Florian Nowak

Product news: A new road shoe was recently introduced with the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5. As the name suggests, the biggest feature is the innovative Powerstrap Velcro design.

The Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 is the first model introduced in Fizik's new Tempo Road series. The Tempo Road series should be characterized above all by a pleasant driving experience and an essential, timeless look. The classic considerations of a street shoe have been redefined with a distinctive identity and Fizik's famed form-fitting construction, build quality and attention to detail.

The Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 uses what is known as a dual strap design, where an adjustment strap provides additional support regardless of the fit for the instep and midfoot area. Unlike traditional Velcro straps that simply pull two sides of the shoe upper together, Powerstrap features an anatomical strap configuration that wraps around the foot to provide a combination of secure fit and supportive comfort with just two straps. The instep and midfoot of the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 are separately adjustable areas that offer a fully customized fit and compression. The dual Velcro straps are intentionally wide for easy adjustment, a secure fit, and enhanced durability.

“We are excited to introduce the new Tempo Powerstrap R5 shoes. The versatile new Tempo shoe structure combined with the proven R5 sole gives us an excellent basis to present our new Powerstrap shoeing and closure system to road riders around the world - whether they are familiar with fizik shoes or our brand new We are proud to share the Tempo Powerstrap R5. – Luca Mathia Bertoncello, Brand Director of Fizik

The Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 combines the best of Fizik's proven designs, materials and construction techniques with the new Powerstrap closure design. It features the R5 outsole, which is made of carbon-reinforced nylon with optimal stiffness for efficient power transfer through the pedals and some flexibility for more comfort with a low weight. The upper is flexible to fit snugly but tough enough to protect against wind and weather and remain durable. Perforations aid in temperature management for year-round riding.
