Product news: The Franconian manufacturer Cube sells well over half a million bicycles a year. For several years, the range of accessories has also been expanded in Waldershof and is constantly being further developed. Real independent brands are now also part of the portfolio.
Cube ACS – Variety for all requirements
At Cube, the accessories are referred to as ACS. The company that installed good equipment on standard frames from Asia and then offered the whole thing at a bargain price has developed into one of the leading companies in the industry. In the early days, the stickers were still attached to the bikes, but today the name Cube stands for well thought-out and highly functional bikes with an excellent price-performance ratio.
The makers of the Cube ACS lines can therefore fall back on a wealth of experience. The RFR line (RFR stands for Ready for Race) impresses with a lot of value for mostly little money. There have been proven and functional parts for cyclists for years, from lighting to saddles, which are purchased from large-scale manufacturers who know their trade. Only products developed in-house have always been allowed to bear the Cube name. The things convinced colleagues as well as me again and again in various tests. The makers have know-how and so accessories have been created that can compete with those of other brands that only specialize in accessories. So the step of giving the products an identity with their own brand names that matches their value is only logical and correct. The specialist trade will certainly be happy too, as the items will find friends more easily among riders from other brands if the brand name is not occupied by a bike manufacturer.
Cube ACS - Several brands under one roof
The Ryke brand is aimed at demanding, sporty road bike and cross-country riders with a sense of style. Cube says: "Clear design and noble materials - the new brand RYKE stands for real passion for two wheels." Cube uses the highest quality textiles and relies on the highest quality standards. Elegant colors and a timeless design should create classics that make racers' hearts beat faster.
Natural Fit bundles the ergonomics expertise from Cube ACS. There is no reason to refuse the subject of ergonomics. While it used to be that you had to torture yourself, today every ambitious athlete is aware that you can access performance for longer if you are in an optimal position on the bike. And even as a beginner you should deal with it, so it often depends on how comfortable you feel on the bike, whether you pedal regularly or only occasionally.
Christian Arnold and Filip Ferderber, product designers and ergonomics experts at Cube, say: “Our ultimate goal when developing Natural Fit products is to include every aspect related to biking. We have performance, comfort and health in mind. During the design process in cooperation with our ergonomics team around Dr. Michael Foti, the focus is on the individuality of each individual. The ergonomic requirements are implemented with millimeter-precise detail work and the technical possibilities of material and producibility are fully exploited in order to achieve the best possible result.”
Acid and Square are the two names that practically every cyclist should remember. Here are the things that you should have as basics in your closet or on your bike. Under Acid you will find all kinds of hardware for the bike, from luggage racks to folding locks. Square offers the right softgoods, geared towards multisport and casual. Everyone who wants to go mountain biking and commute during the week or go to the beer garden with the same clothing will find what they are looking for here.
A few highlights from the Cube ACS range 2019
The Cube Rook Helmet is intended as a companion for off-road cyclists and bikers looking for the next adventure. The biker should keep a cool head! Good ventilation is achieved with a clever arrangement of the 18 ventilation openings, and the adjustable visor should also channel the air flow.
A special feature is the X-Lock positioned on the rear section, which is pulled down for protection. A position light or the battery for a lamp can be attached to this mounting point on the next night ride. The flat dividers on the chin straps and the Silc 180 Fit System should ensure a good fit. With the flat adjusters on the strap and the 180 degree width adjustment, there are also various removable and washable pads. The trail helmet is available in 99,95 colors for 6 euros, which we can imagine for many areas of use.
We also want to take a closer look at the Cube GTY Maze shoes and the C62 Slt shoe.
The Cube GTY Maze Shoe is a real all-rounder. The sole is stable enough to support the foot when cycling, but a stiffness in the lower, middle area makes the shoe interesting for everyone who also has walking or carrying passages on their tours, for cycling tourists and everyone who also wants to leave the shoe on, when they get off the bike. The design with conventional lacing looks good with the Maze, which will be available from 36-48. It comes in three colors for 99,95 euros.
The all-rounder as well as the sporty rider will be satisfied with the 185 gram light Cube AM Storm Jacket Have fun. Functional material with 2,5 layers should protect the driver from wind and rain even in bad downpours. An adjustable hood with an additional peak helps with this. A clever detail is also hidden in the back part, a bow at the bottom hem allows an effective width adjustment without affecting the good fit, the jacket always fits snugly. Back in the city, reflective elements ensure extra safety. The nylon jacket will be available in sizes XS to XXXL with a casual cut in a gray and black combination at a price of 159,95 euros.
The Cube C62 SLT shoe is aimed at a completely different driver. Here you move in the super-sporty segment. Cube itself defines it like this:
“ENDURANCE, STIFFNESS AND A MINIMAL WEIGHT – ATTRIBUTES THAT CARBON MATERIAL COMBINES LIKE NO OTHER. ALSO COME WITH AN EXCELLENT FIT AND AN INTELLIGENT DESIGN FOR MAXIMUM COMFORT AND INTUITIVE OPERATION.”
We do not want to leave so much praise uncommented and provide a few facts. The price of 269,95 euros for a shoe with a super stiff carbon sole and two screw caps is absolutely competitive. The very light 248 gram shoe is available in sizes 36 to 48. Features worth mentioning are the replaceable cleats, the reflective heel area and the ventilated tongue.
The next product is also aimed at mile eaters, even if the target group is likely to be a little more leisurely on the road. The Acid Travlr 20/2, yes, they're really called Travlr and come with the label Acid, and of course they're waterproof. A well thought-out hanging system on the back should make friends with any luggage rack thanks to a wide range of adjustment options. The roll-top closure is standard, and the choice of PVC-free fabric is particularly pleasing. The pair of bags with a volume of 119,95 liters (40 liters per bag) is available for EUR 20.
If you go on a day trip or commute, you should have lights on your bike. Actually, it is always good for everyone to have a lighting set in their luggage, you never know how long the trip will be when adventure calls. The Acid Pro 30 lighting set is a companion that can also be used on the road thanks to STVO approval. For 39,95 euros there is a lot of value. Both Lamoen come with a silicone strap attachment and can be recharged using the supplied USB cable and integrated lithium-polymer battery. the 30 lux of the front light are decent and thanks to the multi-stage battery indicator you can estimate the remaining lighting time.
At the Cube Edge Hybrid backpack I want to highlight the price! Why? Because €149,95 is very good for such a backpack, the competitors are asking for significantly more. The 20 liter backpack for e-bikers comes in black and lime and weighs 1550 grams with SAS-TEC SCA-450 back protector. The Natural Fit back system should allow it to sit comfortably even with the heavy battery in the battery compartment. It is hydration bladder compatible, has a zip pocket in the main compartment and a tool compartment in the front flap as well as hip belt pockets.
Standard are: compression straps, a helmet holder and protector holder as well as the goggle compartment with fleece and the rain cover. Electronics fans will love the fleeced easy-access side pocket for a smartphone or trail map and e-bike display. There is an integrated emergency plan on top.
