Testing: Test: Syncros RR1.0 Carbon Aero Cockpit – a one-piece handlebar/stem system

July 7, 2018 by Florian Nowak

Test: Due to their aerodynamics and rigidity, they are indispensable in professional cycling, and cockpit combos consisting of stem and handlebars are also a great alternative to classic modules for ambitious and style-conscious racing cyclists. With the Syncros RR1.0 Carbon Aero, we tested a high-quality cockpit from Scott's own brand.

Syncros RR1.0 Carbon – Technologies:

The Syncros RR1.0 Carbon Aero is made of high-modulus carbon fiber and guarantees precise steering despite the lightweight racing design. The one-piece combo allows for clean lines from the arch to the midsection.

CARBON UD

The basis of the Syncros carbon components are the fibers. The Syncros RR1.0 Carbon Aero is made of high-modulus carbon fiber and guarantees precise steering despite the lightweight racing design. Because mainly unidirectional carbon fibers are used, as these are characterized by higher tensile strength and a higher tensile modulus compared to braided carbon fibers. They are then arranged to give the best results (along the fiber lengths) and the required stiffness (or flexibility) in the appropriate places. The one-piece combo allows for clean lines from the arch to the midsection.

IC (INTEGRATED COCKPIT)

The integrated cockpit concept ties the line between components and frame, creating a seamless unit that functions as a complete system rather than a collection of individual parts. The result is lighter, stronger and more aerodynamic and redefines the classic bike aesthetic.

Molded compression

Compression Molding can be used to create normally non-moldable, intricate carbon parts and shapes. The material used is poured into the heated mold, the mold is closed and pressure is applied to heat the material into the desired shape. Heat and pressure are continued until the material hardens.

Syncros RR1.0 Carbon – Test:

Let's start with the optics, if you take the cockpit as such, it looks high quality and really elegant. Attached to the frame, it offers a clean look and makes a tidy impression. And the station wagon is also convincing when driving, because the unit gives you a significantly better power transmission, especially when standing or when sprinting. Despite the high rigidity, the innovative shape offers good comfort. The optimized carbon lamination dampens harsh shocks and ensures a stiff, secure connection. The ergonomic curve allows for a comfortable position of the hands and avoids fatigue, so that you can remain in control even after long hours. Another practical feature is the bike computer holder, which can be attached to the underside and thus allows the individual training systems to be used cleanly.

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
