High-quality motor technology is now affordable with the SHIMANO STEPS E7000 group. New switch, new drive, new display and an additional customization option via smartphone.
Shimano is introducing a new e-bike group today, the SHIMANO STEPS E7000. A group that aims to encourage mountain bikers to break new ground with support of up to 25 km/h.
When Shimano's first-class E-MTB group, E8000, was developed, the focus was on difficult trails with extreme inclines and a progressive riding style. With the new E7000 components, leisure mountain bikers will be addressed in the future with adapted support and simple operation.
SHIMANO STEPS E7000: stay in control

The SHIMANO STEPS E7000 drive is operated via a switch on the left side for changing the drive modes. So you can easily switch between Off, Eco, Trail, Boost and the pushing aid with your thumb. The electronic Di2 rear derailleur (or the mechanical rear derailleur) is controlled with a symmetrical right switch (or trigger). The design of the left switch is adapted to be combined with a thumb lever for the remote seat post. The switch can also be combined with Shimano's new i-Spec EV standard for a tidy cockpit. The feel of the keys has also been changed, so you should get clean click feedback from the buttons even when wearing winter gloves.
SHIMANO STEPS E7000: Information display

The easy-to-read display (SC-E7000) contains all the important information for the driver about the drive unit, the battery and the Di2 system. The support mode, driving speed, battery life and, for Di2 drivers, the selected gear can be shown in the display.
The new SHIMANO STEPS functionality also allows you to display all riding information via third-party devices such as display devices/GPS devices or smartphones using the minimalist EW-EN100 connector.
For those who prefer an extremely minimal cockpit, it is possible to control the assist modes and battery status via buttons and LEDs on the EW-EN100 connector. To go one step further, it is even possible to remove the left switch completely and control the support modes via the mode button on the display.
SHIMANO STEPS E7000: drive technology

Driving support comes from a powerful and responsive 60Nm drive unit, providing support where it is needed and when you need it most. It also comes with the option to customize your driving performance, depending on whether you need optimal acceleration or optimal battery life, or somewhere in between. Simply select Explorer, Dynamic or Custom settings on your smartphone and the driving characteristics of the drive unit will change automatically.
In addition, the E7000 drive unit has all the advantages of the E8000 drive. It delivers up to 500 watts of peak power (nominal: 250W) to propel you up the trail at up to 25 km/h, all in dynamic response to how much assistance you need. The drive unit shape is clean and compact to maintain a narrow Q-factor and it is one of the lightest e-bike drive units specifically designed for MTB riding. The special thing about the drive unit is the intuitive and responsive driving support, which is completely tailored to your driving style.
SHIMANO STEPS E7000: Assist modes

The drive unit can be operated in one of three support modes to offer different levels of support for different riding conditions. Choose Eco mode for the lightest assist and low battery drain, choose Trail mode for the best balance of responsive assist and battery drain, or choose Boost mode for powerful assist, fast acceleration and fast responsive assist up to top speed from 25 km/h. The characteristics of these modes can also be customized between Explorer, Dynamic or Custom with SHIMANO's easy-to-use smartphone app.
Whichever setting you choose, you get an intuitive and powerful response via a torque sensor to assess your cadence. This makes the new SHIMANO STEPS system feel more like you're riding a smooth, controllable and dynamic bike. Even if you ride unassisted or beyond 25 km/h, thanks to the low internal resistance of the SHIMANO STEPS E7000, the pedaling action is still smooth and comfortable without additional propulsion resistance of the drive unit.
SHIMANO STEPS E7000: Natural riding experience
The advanced electronic technology is evident not only in the drive unit, but also in the entire drive system. Similar to its bigger brother, the E8000, the SHIMANO STEPS E7000 e-MTB components coupled with Di2 drivetrains deliver a full Shimano system with a natural riding feel.
Where some e-MTB drives position the rider's legs wider than normal mountain bikes, SHIMANO STEPS e-bikes offer a natural and efficient sitting position on the bike thanks to their slim design and a typical MTB distance between the crank arms (Q-factor). In addition, bike manufacturers benefit from the compact drive unit, making it easier to find the best solution and design nimble and responsive E-MTBs. It's this attention to detail that sets SHIMANO STEPS apart.
SHIMANO STEPS E7000 availability
The new SHIMANO STEPS E7000 components will be available from September and the smartphone app will be available on SHIMANO's E-TUBE site from July.
