Product news / E-Performance / MTB: With the Sram EX1, the US manufacturer had the only special E-MTB group on the market at the time and still does today. Now they are opening their Eagle 12-speed ecosystem further to the E-trend . This includes dedicated E-MTB shifters, short crank arms and chainrings for Bosch motors.
A few weeks ago, Sram rounded off its Eagle range in terms of price with the NX Eagle groupset. With the new addition, there is now also a 12-speed option that is affordable for almost everyone, for which you don't even need an XD freehub, but can continue to use the well-known 9-/10-speed. But the NX Eagle is not only remarkable because of its price, but also because it is the first Eagle group with which Sram also thinks specifically about e-mountain bikers.
The PG-1230 Eagle cassette is not only the first 12-speed cassette from Sram that is officially specified for use on E-MTBs, but part of the group is also a special E-MTB shifter, with which in only one gear can be shifted at the same time in both directions. The aim is to prevent damage that could result from the combination of skipping several gears under load and the additional load from the power of the engine on the drive train.
Up to now, the NX Eagle E-MTB shifter has been on its own, but from now on it will have sister models for all Eagle groupsets (XX1, X01, GX and NX) for all those who also want to enjoy the lower weight and the high-quality feel of the expensive levers. Sram is thus expanding and opening up its Eagle ecosystem further in the direction of e-bikes.
In the future there will also be special E-MTB cranks that follow the current trend and are also available in extremely short versions up to 150mm. The reason for this is the generous ground clearance that is achieved, which makes sense on e-mountain bikes in particular, since you can still step on it on the way up, even on difficult terrain. Last but not least, the US drive specialists also had an Eagle-compatible X-Sync 2 chain ring for Bosch drives in their luggage.
