Cycling: The 20th stage of the Tour of France will be held against the clock. Due to the wavy profile, we don't see the pure time trial specialists at the front in our Tour de France preview. Rather, we expect a close fight between the best drivers. They have to show everything tomorrow to end up on the podium. After all, Tom Dumoulin, Primoz Roglic and Chris Froome are all within 32 seconds - and one will end up sad.
Caution, wavy: Nothing for classic time trialists
At 12 noon tomorrow, the first driver will roll off the starting ramp in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle. After 31 kilometers and a driving time of around 45 minutes, he will then set the first best time in Espelette, the destination. However, it will still be a while before the stage victory is at stake, because the Favorites of the 20th stage are not the classic Roleure. On the contrary: the wavy profile in the French Basque country is more likely to suit puncheurs and climbers. After three hard weeks, these are also particularly important regeneration skills. This aspect also speaks strongly for the fact that tomorrow the classification drivers will fight for the day's victory. This will be announced in the southwest of France around 17:15 p.m., as will the overall winner of the tour.
Velomotion Prediction: The Top 3 are the Top 3
In the time trials at the end of a Grand Tour, we often see the classification riders in the first places - even if the profile is flat. This will definitely be the case tomorrow as well. In our Tour de France preview, we strongly assume that the top 3 in the overall ranking will ultimately also be the top 3 in the daily ranking. Geraint Thomas (Sky) and Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) are known to most as top notch time trialists anyway, as are Chris Froome (Sky). However, one of the newcomers will secure the stage win tomorrow. Primois Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo) – the already the today's stage won – is considered an excellent time trialist. He particularly likes a medium-length and wavy course. So tomorrow's section seems made for him. From a German point of view, Nils Politt (Katusha-Alpecin) and Nickias Arndt (Sunweb) into the top 10.
