cycling: Tour de France #18 Preview: Peter Sagan is running out of opponents

July 25, 2018 by Michael Behringer

Tour de France Preview Stage 18 Peter Sagan

Cycling: Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) has already won three stages in this year's Tour of France. However, winning won't be boring for the world champion. He has his last chance before Paris tomorrow. In our Tour de France preview of the 18th stage, we are betting on him again - also due to the lack of alternatives. His fall on the today's 17th stage the Slovak survived well.

A day for the sprinters: last chance before Paris

Southwest of Toulouse, the drivers will set off for a small tomorrow Pyrenean break. Before the yellow jersey and the podium are at stake on the two following days in the mountains and in the time trial, the sprinters can do it again today. Last chance before Paris! The few small, crisp hills shouldn't stop the fast men remaining in the peloton from taking part in a very likely one mass sprint to participate. Of course, many professionals are very tired after today's stage, but the chances of success for the escapees are still slim. After all, the less well-known sprinters rarely have the opportunity to win a stage in the Tour of France in such a weak field of sprinters. Therefore, in our Tour de France preview, we are assuming a mass sprint in which the few remaining sprinters in the peloton will compete.

Velomotion prognosis: Peter Sagan with fourth stage win

Starting at 171,0:13 p.m. tomorrow, the drivers will cover 55 kilometers from Trie-sur-Baïse to Pau. There is a small anniversary to celebrate. Then already Pau is the destination for the 70th time a stage of the Tour de France. There was almost always a bunch sprint. Unfortunately, there can no longer be any talk of a Sprint Royale due to the lack of many top sprinters. Nevertheless, we expect a sprint in our Tour de France preview, because the Cote d'Anos is crossed 18,5 kilometers before the finish and shouldn't really cause any problems with a length of 2,1 kilometers and an average gradient of 4,6 percent. Certainly will take part in the mass sprint without any problems Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe). After so many tough stages, the world champion simply has to be called the top favourite. Because compared to all the other fast men, despite his fall, he must have coped well with the mountains.
