Track cycling: The German track cycling championship has a dominator. Maximilian Dörnbach won his third title today. In the men's sprint, the man from Erfurt surprisingly won the gold medal. Charlotte Becker celebrated in the points race, Miriam Welte and Lea Sophie Friedrich won the team sprint.

Maximilian Dörnbach dominates the German track cycling championship

With a victory in the team sprint and in the 1.000 meter time trial Maximilian Dornbach firmly calculated. However, he did not dare to suspect that he would dominate the German Track Cycling Championships with three gold medals. On Saturday, the man from Erfurt also secured first place in the sprint. In the supreme discipline, he beat Stefan Bötticher 2-0 in the final run. Bronze went to Robert Förstemann, who defeated Nik Schröter in the small final.

Maximilian Dornbach:
"I arrived with a very good feeling and knew that my form was good. With the victory in the team sprint and the 1.000 I was almost expecting a 10-meter time trial. I wanted to be in the top three in the sprint. A lot depends on my form on the day. But I felt better with each run throughout the tournament. However, the heat and going to bed late also took their toll on me."

Miriam Welte secures another gold medal – as does Charlotte Becker

Maximilian Dörnbach wasn't the only rider who had multiple reasons to celebrate at the 2018 German Track Cycling Championships. The women also boasted multiple winners. Miriam Welte, together with Lea Sophie Friedrich, secured the gold medal in the women's team sprint. She had already been successful in the time trial on Thursday. Charlotte Becker won the women's points race with 57 points, ahead of Michaela Ebert and Gudrun Stock.

Charlotte Becker:
"It was fun today. My legs weren't that good this morning and I thought long and hard about which gear to use and then decided on the thicker one. I then used every opportunity to score points, like “I have what I have” and in the last laps I felt really good and brought victory home.”
