cycling: The future of the BMC racing team is secured: CCC steps in as a sponsor

July 16, 2018 by Michael Behringer

BMC CCC Van Avermaet

Cycling: Team BMC is one of the most successful teams in recent years. Nevertheless, the main sponsor wants to get out after this season. The team management has now found a successor. CCC will be the namesake and main sponsor from 2019. Superstar Greg Van Avermaet's contract has also been extended, as announced at a press conference on the Tour de France's rest day.

Team BMC: CCC becomes title sponsor starting in 2019

It has been known for a few months that Team BMC is looking for a new main sponsor. The BMC Development Team was dissolved last year. For 2019, the pros should no longer be able to count on BMC as the main sponsor. Now the team management on the edge of Tour de France rest days found a successor. As of 2019, Polish shoe and bag company CCC will serve as title sponsor. So far, you have been known in cycling as a sponsor of a ProContinental team.

Team BMC manager Jim Ochowicz:
"We are excited to be at the world's greatest cycling race today to announce CCC as the title sponsor of Continuum Sports beginning in 2019."

Dariusz Milek, CEO of CCC:
“I am delighted to see CCC as a partner of Continuum Sports and together to reach the highest level in cycling. We were looking for a way to join the WorldTour. This was the perfect opportunity to work with a well established and respected team.”

Greg Van Avermaet extends his contract

At the BMC team's press conference held on Monday, another positive news was announced in addition to the new sponsor. Superstar Greg Van Avermaet extended his contract. Nothing is known about the duration of his new contract, nor about the contract term of the new title sponsor CCC.

Greg Van Avermaet:
"I've spent eight years with the team and during that time I've had so many good moments that it's nice to know we'll continue together. A team more or less focused on me and the classics is a unique opportunity and I look forward to next season with CCC as title sponsor.”
