racing bikes: Test: KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige – speed junkie from Austria

June 21, 2018 by Florian Nowak

Test: The KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige is the latest road model from the Austrians. The fully integrated aero racer comes in the Prestige version with wireless Sram Red eTap groupset, disc brakes and high-quality DT Swiss wheels for impressive performance.

The KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige is the latest top model of the 2018 aerobikes from Mattighofen. With only around 7.2 kilograms, the wireless Sram Red eTap groupset and disc brakes from Sram as well as easy-to-accelerate carbon wheels from DT Swiss, KTM wants to offer a high-end model for speed fans. We tested it for you.

KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige frame and aero cockpit

The frame geometry of the KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige enables an aerodynamic position thanks to the short head tube in conjunction with the aerobar, so that the driver's performance is lost through air resistance as little as possible. Nevertheless, comfort was not neglected in the construction, so that you can also go on relaxed trips with the Lisse Prestige. How serious they are about aerodynamics can also be seen in the tidy and hidden cable routing. In order not to offer large areas of attack for the wind, there are no cables on the outside of the frame and handlebar stem.

KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige equipment

The clear highlight of the KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige is the electronic Sram Red eTap group, which impresses with its simple switching logic and precise processes. In addition, the wireless group does not experience problems with plugs due to the wireless function. On the Revelator Lisse Presige, the 2-speed crank was fitted with a 52-36 at the front and an 11-25 cassette at the rear. This allows for higher speeds on flats and descents, while still making it possible to tackle steep climbs. The tire setup is also particularly interesting. The Tire Positioning System with the streamlined 23 millimeter Attack front tire and the high-traction 25 millimeter Force rear tire from Continental is said to bring more traction and comfort with low air and rolling resistance at the same time.

KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige – speed junkie from Austria

During our extensive test drives, we were able to put the KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige through its paces in all areas. Especially the cockpit caught our eye right at the beginning, which was able to fully convince with its tidy impression. Of course, the Sram Red eTap, which does not require any cables, also makes a major contribution to this. The shifting behavior is also intuitive and precise, because with the left shifter it is easier to shift and with the right shifter it is harder if you press both levers at the same time to change the chainring. The 140mm Sram discs are also a great addition to the racer and enable optimal control and provide additional safety, even or especially at high speeds.

The frame of this speed junkie is fully trimmed for aerodynamics, which is particularly evident in the specially shaped fork and rear end. The latter is also slightly lowered, which ensures great comfort. The Renner absorbs a large part of the impact, especially on bumpy ground.

In super-fast passages, such as descents, the KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige is super smooth on the road and is easy to control. But even in steeper uphill sections, the Lisse delivers a decent performance with its 7,2 kg. This is not only due to the weight, which is impressive for an aero racer, but also to the good power transmission of the stiff carbon frame. You can feel the propulsion, especially when accelerating, since hardly any power is lost. If you are seriously considering getting a KTM Revelator Lisse Prestige, you should first check your own dimensions carefully, because the relatively short head tube and the handlebar/stem combination mean that the geometry is slightly different compared to other racing bikes.
