Product news: With the Roadmachine X, BMC Switzerland is introducing a new racing bike for the adventurous. Developed as a versatile bike for riders who expect high performance even when the paved road ends, the BMC Roadmachine X is the ideal companion in every riding situation. We were in Switzerland for you even before the launch and put the bike through its paces.
Whether it's gravel adventures, on-road or off-road day trips, the BMC Roadmachine X is a free spirit to explore. The new Roadmachine X completes the BMC Roadmachine collection as this versatile bike is for those who love road adventure riding and gravel exploration. It is therefore particularly suitable for sporty commuters.
To achieve this versatility, BMC engineers used Tuned Compliance Concept technology. With the stable, versatile geometry, reliable components and all-round wheelset, the BMC Roadmachine X offers first-class performance and handling on almost any terrain. The hidden rack mounts and tubeless wheelset make the Roadmachine X a commuter or all-weather bike. Wide tubeless rims and 34 mm tires allow you to safely explore any terrain. The long front end improves control, while the short chainstays aim to reward the rider with quick acceleration.
Of course, road bikes typically don't have active suspension elements, but that doesn't mean BMC has shelved the concept of a more comfortable ride. BMC develops its frames with a systematic approach and develops each purpose-built bike for the needs of its riders. TCC is applied to achieve the required vertical compliance and lateral stiffness to provide a unique driving experience.
The Roadmachine X features TCC Endurance, the most powerful version of BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept technology. Specific areas of the frame move in predefined patterns when subjected to vertical loads, creating precise vertical compliance without sacrificing lateral stiffness. The end result is the balance between comfort and performance for a fast ride.
Functional and minimalistic, well thought-out features like internal cable routing blend seamlessly with the clean design in true Swiss style, while flat-mount brakes provide enhanced durability and a clean and integrated aesthetic. The new BMC Roadmachine X is available in sizes 47cm, 51cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58cm, 61cm.
BMC Roadmachine X review
Punctually at 6 a.m. we set off from Grindelwald to the small Scheideck (there you can take the cog railway through the Eiger, Mönch past the Eismeer to the Jungfraujoch on which the highest railway station in Europe is located). The climb is really tough: Eiger Ultra Trail 1100hm and 8,8km steeply uphill over switchbacks on asphalt, gravel and scree roads. So perfect for getting a real feel for the BMC Roadmachine X here. What was particularly surprising, or rather convincing, was that the 1×11 drive was completely sufficient to cope with the climb. In addition, you could clearly feel how every step is converted into propulsion and all the power goes to the road, which of course made things much more pleasant. Because for an aluminum frame, the Roadmachine X is incredibly light.
Passing the Hotel Bellevue des Alpes, where time seems to stand still, we headed back down to Interlaken. Here, too, the BMC Roadmachine X could be used to the full because the surface was constantly changing on the descent. (Loose gravel, big stones, stone fields, switchbacks, gullies) This is where the bike finally reached its limit, but it was amazing that you can really ride almost anything with it. Narrow, steep, winding serpentines alternated with mountain villages and trails along the mountain stream, from gravel of all kinds, asphalt to earthy trails, everything was there. The comfortable geometry in combination with the pleasant seating position enabled us to have a super relaxed ride. In addition, the Roadmachine can be driven agilely, but is extremely smooth running at high speeds. This is also due to the carbon fork, which offers both comfort and good torsional rigidity when braking.
