Pinot receives a bitter clap
long sat Tony Martin (Katusha-Alpecin) in the destination Rovereto in the hot seat, but then came Rohan Dennis (BMC). The Australian lived up to his role as favorite and undercut the German's time by 14 seconds. After that, nothing should change in the first two places, because the top-ranked professionals in the overall ranking could no longer come close to these times. The fight for the Maglia Rosa and a good starting position before the remaining mountain stages began. Above all, these ambitions suffered a severe setback Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ). The French lost a full 3:19 minutes to the day's winner and thus all hopes of overall victory. On the other hand, it was surprisingly strong Dominic Pozzo alive (Bahrain Merida), who gained 59 seconds over his French rival and is now over a minute ahead of him in third. Between these two pushed himself Chris Froome (Sky), who finished fifth of the stage, 35 seconds back on Rohan Dennis.

Yates only loses 1:15 to Dumoulin
At the very end of the time trial, there was a big duel between Tom Dumoulin and Simon Yachts. The time trial world champion from the Netherlands started 2 minutes and 11 seconds behind. His fans were hoping that he could catch up today and then only have to defend in the remaining stages. But Simon Yates was in excellent shape again today. As 22nd of the day's standings, he only lost 1:15 to Tom Dumoulin. He is now 56 seconds ahead of last year's winner. The Briton will probably not give up this lead – should he not experience a total slump. The other competitors are even further behind. Dominic Pozzo alive has a deficit of 3:11, Christopher Froome from 3:50 and Thibaut Pinot from 4:19. Far away from the overall standings, however, a completely different driver caused astonishment. Fabio Arau (UAE Team Emirates) rode what was probably the best time trial of his career. The Italian was just 37 seconds slower than Rohan Dennis and sprinted to sixth.
