General: Deutschland Tour: The Jedermann Tour on attractive routes as part of the supporting programme

24 April 2018 by Florian Nowak

Germany Tour: With the slogan Germany. Dein Tour, the new edition of the tour has set itself the clear goal of not only offering a race for professionals, but also actively involving the entire cycling community from young to old in the event. As part of the Jedermann Tour, amateur athletes can experience the routes up close and follow in the footsteps of the pros on August 26 in Stuttgart.

The Jedermann Tour is the race for amateur athletes as part of the Deutschland Tour. On August 26, the participants can choose the motto “Region Stuttgart. Your Tour.” on two routes and follow in the footsteps of the pros. Both the experienced racing bike amateur and the curious beginner are part of a premiere: For the first time, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg is the start and finish of a race for everyone. 3.500 amateur cyclists choose between the smaller "Weinbergrunde" (57,5 kilometers with 686 meters in altitude) and a "Tour through the Stuttgart region" (117,5 kilometers with 1.339 meters in altitude). The participants of both routes start at the Schlossplatz Stuttgart. The cyclists are led through the city via Bad Cannstatt to Stuttgart-Obertürkheim via the B14, which is closed to traffic, where the routes are separated.

Jedermann Tour – “Round through the Stuttgart region”

The drivers of the "Tour through the Stuttgart Region" continue through the medieval imperial city of Esslingen and cross the Neckar on the Sirnauer Bridge. Shortly thereafter, after 24 kilometers in Deizisau, the first difficulty of the day awaits with a steep climb. After this start, there is little time to relax, because after crossing the Neckar in Wernau, the participants head into the hilly foothills of the Alb. Shortly after the ride, which is well worth seeing, through the historic Kirchheim unter Teck and Notzingen, the district of Esslingen is left and the district of Göppingen welcomes the hobby athletes. On the way to Ebersbach-Roßwälden, the drivers are constantly going up and down. Halfway through the race, the Fils is crossed and the aid station in Ebersbach an der Fils is reached. Here it is important to recharge your batteries, because after driving through the Nassachtal - the valley of the Köhler - it goes to the Schurwald to Schorndorf-Schlichten at an altitude of 495 meters. At kilometer 66, the Rems-Murr district holds the highest point of this year's Jedermann Tour. After this climax, the legs can rest. The descent leads through the birthplace of Gottlieb Daimler, Schorndorf, into the Remstal. The route runs along the Rems, surrounded by vineyards, via Winterbach, Remshalden and Weinstadt to Waiblingen. Through the Beinsteiner Torturm, past the historic old town, amateur athletes can now expect a professional atmosphere. Not only does the shorter “Weinbergrunde” meet the “Tour through the Stuttgart region” here, but the finale of the elite route also runs from Waiblingen on the course for everyone.

Everyone's Tour - Short "Weinbergrunde" for beginners

While the participants of the longer circuit travel south-east from Stuttgart-Obertürkheim into the Neckar Valley, the shorter circuit climbs gently from here to Stuttgart-Uhlbach. Passing the wine press, it goes up into the vineyards to the Rotenberg at 374 meters above sea level. The drivers pass the imposing, temple-like burial chapel for Queen Catherine of Württemberg and experience a magnificent view of the state capital. Since the "Weinberggrund" is also open to beginners and can even be ridden with tandems or without a time measurement, there is nothing to prevent you from enjoying this beautiful view a little longer. A rapid descent in the direction of Fellbach continues through the vineyards of the Rems-Murr district with constant ups and downs. Through Kernen-Stetten and Kernen-Rommelshausen, there is a short descent into the Remstal and on to Waiblingen-Beinstein. Further along the Rems, amateur athletes also reach the Beinsteiner Tor in Waiblingen, where all routes are reunited.

From Waiblingen, there are two short climbs from the Rems-Murr district to the district of Ludwigsburg. After Fellbach, all cyclists ride down to Remseck am Neckar. After the Käfertal, between Max-Eyth-See and vineyards, the state capital is reached again. Here it is important to mobilize the last reserves for the grand finale. Climbing over the Hallschlag, past the Löwentor, up to the Pragsattel, the last kilometers of the day lead to the Killesberg. From here there is joy, because it is downhill and flat to the finish line on Stuttgart's party mile, Theodor-Heuss-Strasse. Not only everyone has a reason to celebrate, because right after the amateur cyclists, the winner of the Germany Tour 2018 will also be determined in the center of Stuttgart.

Deutschland Tour: Jedermann Tour – registration

All participants can enjoy roads that are completely closed to traffic, a big pasta party the evening before, professional catering and material service in the race and a unique professional experience including crossing the finish line in the same way. The Jedermann Tour not only offers the organization of a carefree bicycle festival, but also a high-quality gift. With the registration, each participant will receive a free jersey, which will be handed out together with the start number. The early bird offer is only valid for a few days and allows you to start from 57 euros. From Thursday (April 26) the registration fee will increase for the first time. Registration takes place at Deutschland-Tour.com/EverymanTour.
