E-bike tour and everyday life: Corratec Life – With high-tech into a more active life

17 April 2018 by Christian Ettl

Corratec Life 2018

Test: The Corratec Life comes from a traditional brand. Since 1990, Corratec has been searching for the perfect bike with its - Passion of Cycling - philosophy. However, different target groups have different requirements. On the one hand there are full and semi-professional racers of all classes. There are also people who are just discovering cycling for themselves. The e-bike revolution and the ongoing evolution of engines and technology are also opening up access to this sport for more and more people. Electrical support in particular makes it easier for people with physical disabilities to start an active life and lowers the inhibition threshold for physical activity.

With the Life series, Corratec provides the perfect bike for precisely this target group. Among other things, for rehabilitation sports. The geometry enables a relaxed seating position with a good overview of what is happening on the road. That is not by accident. Dr Ludwig Geiger, an experienced sports doctor and passionate cyclist, was a co-initiator of the project.

Corratec Life Geometry

The Corratec Life comes with a stable frame and powerful brakes

Thanks to the Fusion Tube Edge technology, a high permissible system weight of a total of 180 kg can be achieved despite the light frame construction. This high system weight is also achieved through reinforced spokes and rims specially made for the Corratec Life series. Magura brakes provide the right deceleration. Four pistons for maximum braking power on the front wheel and 2 pistons on the rear wheel. In this way, the braking force can be ideally dosed and thus ensures a constant feeling of security.

In order to always sit comfortably in the saddle, even on longer tours, Corratec has installed a particularly ergonomic and comfortable SQlab 621 Active saddle in its Life series. In addition to the comfortable saddle, a comfortable 100mm suspension fork from RockShox ensures sufficient comfort and added safety even in poor road conditions. Mudguards and reflectors are just as much a part of the extensive safety equipment as the front and rear lights controlled by the Bosch system. So you are always clearly visible even at dusk and in the dark.

Bosch Performance CX with Nyon display

The Corratec Life is powered by the Performance CX System from Bosch. Together with the Bosch Powerpack 500, this ensures plenty of power and sufficient range. The battery neatly integrated in the luggage carrier is easily accessible to charge the bike between tours. The 250 watt Bosch Performance CX drive with 75 Nm torque brings the entire system to a maximum of 25 km/h and therefore does not require a separate road approval.

The highlight is definitely the Nyon display unit (installed in the Life CX10S Nyon and Life 8S Nyon models). The Nyon control unit not only offers the option of switching between the individual support modes and driving information, but also has an integrated navigation unit (map material must be installed separately). Another function with Nyon is the fitness function. This gives you real-time information about the pedal force and cadence used and calculates your energy consumption. This becomes even more detailed with an additional chest strap (sold separately). So you can always track and stick to the training plan tailored to you.
