Product news: Camelbak Innovations 2018 - Better protected and cared for thanks to new protector and beverage systems

March 27, 2018 by Florian Nowak

Product news: Also for the cycling year 2018, Camelbak presents some interesting products in the field of beverage and protection systems. The KUDU models were redesigned as part of a complete overhaul and expansion of the protector backpacks. In addition, the series has been supplemented with the sternum protector, an accessory that is unique worldwide and which additionally increases the safety of mountain bikers on the trail. Also new are the first hydration vest for bikers and the new Podium Dirt Series drinking bottles.

Camelbak KUDU – The protector backpack

A first highlight in the Camelbak collection for 2018 are the KUDU protector backpacks. The combination of clever function, maximum protection and high-quality workmanship has always stood for the Camelbak KUDU series, which has now been completely revised. Instead of three, there are now two models with pack sizes of 10 and 20 liters respectively. In addition, both packs are available in two sizes, S/M and M/L, each with a different sized full back protector. The full back protectors, developed in close cooperation with the Austrian protection specialist Komperdell, offer even more protection in the event of a fall thanks to this additional customization. As usual, a level 2 protector is installed, which can absorb around 98 percent of the impact energy - with every impact. Made of high-tech foam, the protector offers full back protection (full back, as opposed to a spine protector/center back), is flexible, multi-impact capable and can be reused practically indefinitely. The special feature of the new KUDU packs is the removable luggage compartment, which simply turns the backpack into a protector. The protector can be worn as a light vest, ideal for short rides or for the bike park. In this variant, too, important accessories such as the foldable "Quick Stow Flasks" in the pockets of the lap belt and two small pockets on the back can be taken with you without any problems. Familiar features are also retained, such as full-face helmet holder, protector holder, bike tool organizer roll and the integrated rain cover. A new addition is a safety whistle integrated into the chest strap clip.

Camelbak Sternum - Protection for the chest area

A new addition to the Camelbak collection in terms of protection is the Sternum Protector. This offers a suitable supplement, which protects the often unprotected area of the chest and sternum with a level 2 protector. Especially when the front wheel rolls over, mountain bikers can bruise their chests through contact with the stem, handlebars or the ground. It is precisely in these situations that the Camelbak Sternum Protector offers the best protection, which fits perfectly into the Camelbak protector backpacks. The sternum protector can also be worn separately. A universal mount has also been integrated into the protector for owners of action cams.

Camelbak Chase Bike Vest - The first hydration vest for bikers

The Camelbak Chase Bike Vest is the first hydration vest for bikers in the range. This novelty is ideal for MTB riders in particular, but also for gravel and adventure rides, where you simply need more water than might fit in the bottle holder, but also don't want/need a real backpack because you value the freedom for yourself. The world's first bike drinking vest is derived from the running vests for ultra and trail runners and has been optimized for the needs and body position on the bike. The Camelbak Chase offers meaningful minimalism without sacrificing drinking water and luggage transport and has a 1,5 liter Crux reservoir and offers 2,5 liters of storage space. The special feature lies in the construction of the wide shoulder straps, on which pockets and storage space for important accessories are attached. Thus, the driver has access to all his belongings without having to take off his vest. Stretch pockets on the back provide space for an additional layer of clothing. 3D Vent Mesh ensures good ventilation over the entire contact surface. Thanks to its low profile and two chest straps, Camelbak Chase stays in place even without a lap belt.

Camelbak Podium Dirt Series – protection against dirt

Even everyday objects like drinking bottles need a breath of fresh air. The Podium Dirt Series is a new addition to the Camelbak Podium drinking bottles, especially for mountain bikers. This comes with an integrated dirt protection cap in three cool colors in the size 620ml with insulation as Dirt Series Podium Chill and without insulation as Dirt Series Podium. The well-known advantages of the Camelbak Podium bottles, such as the uniquely high water flow and the jet valve as well as the antibacterial, plasticizer-free and tasteless Trutaste polypropylene bottle body are of course retained.
