Product news: What's new? – The BH Bikes road models 2018 at a glance

February 15rd 2018 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The 2018 cycling season is just around the corner, the first races have already been won and the manufacturers are coming onto the market with their new products, including the Spaniards from BH Bikes. With a summary of their 2018 road models, we want to give you a small overview of what BH Bikes has to offer this year.

In addition to the new designs, the BH Bikes product range has also changed a bit. With the brand new BH G7 Pro, which is also driven by the pros of the Burgos-BH team, you have a real eye-catcher in your ranks. Thanks to an innovative system for frame construction and a long aerodynamic optimization, the G7 Pro is a real competition bike. Furthermore, all top wheels (Quartz, Ultralight and G7) are available with rim and disc brakes. This is how you want to offer customers the opportunity to choose their bike with the preferred system. In addition, our road presentation will be rounded off by a CX bike and a gravel bike, each of which will be available in three configurations.

BH Bikes G7 Pro

The latest racing bike in the BH Bikes model range is the G7 Pro. The frame is trimmed for aerodynamics and is the result of the main features of the BH G6 Pro and the BH G7 Disc. In the BH G7 Pro, the shape and design of the carbon tubes have been further optimized to create one of the most aerodynamic bikes on the market create. A perfect bike for athletes looking for high performance, speed and reactivity as the main characteristics. The BH G7 Pro is used as a competition bike by the pros of the ProContinental Team BH Burgos, which also includes the young German talent Silvio Herklotz.

Pitch Fiber carbon fiber has been used on the most critical frame parts. The G7 Pro is a monocoque frame made from 100% carbon fiber using an internal molding technique. This exclusive system works by building up high internal pressure in the mold to achieve the highest compact material density and prevent uneven pressure distribution that leads to bubbles and impurities in the carbon. This innovative technology makes it possible to control and optimize the ideal thickness of the different parts of the frame, to determine the most suitable carbon fibers for its construction and to guarantee the least overlap for extreme rigidity and low weight. The result is a spectacular, aerodynamic, stable and light frame with optimal vertical absorption behavior. Computer-aided analysis in the wind tunnel and fluid dynamics allowed the G7 Pro to be raised to the same level as the G7 Disc. The G7 Pro also features the geometry of the G7 Disc, a sloping geometry with a raised head tube, a short rear triangle and an optimized seat tube that ensures a lower center of gravity and optimal manoeuvrability. In order to further improve the aerodynamics, the G7 models use the seat post adjustment system with double screws. This system contributes to aerodynamics and added safety.

The thinner, shorter and asymmetrical chainstays and rear brake design increase the responsiveness and stiffness of the rear frame, improving uphill pedaling performance. The 1,5” head tube, the BB386 standard bottom bracket, its compact design and its short and asymmetrical stays guarantee the best aerodynamics for a reactive, fast bike with absolute rigidity. Thanks to a patented clip system, the battery is completely hidden in the seat post. The innovative cable routing system of the G7 Pro allows the integration of mechanical or electronic systems, guaranteeing the highest level of protection and reliability, while at the same time making replacement extremely easy. The bike also has a Direct Mount socket for brakes to enable even better handling.

BH Bikes G7 Disc

As a counterpart to the G7 Pro, the G7 Disc offers the version with disc brakes. A combination of IT-supported analyzes of the wind tunnel and flow dynamics tests was used during development. The result is a frame with an innovative aerodynamic silhouette that incorporates disc brakes with the same aerodynamics. It is equipped with a BB386 bottom bracket, which offers plenty of space between the chainstays and enables an extremely stiff and sensitive rear end. Seat post, seat clamp and seat tube have been integrated into the frame. The integrated headset bearings were installed in a unique construction in the carbon head tube.

HCIM technology (Hollow Core Internal Molding) was also used in the G7 Disc to create a light, torsion-resistant, sensitive and agile frame. When designing the G7 Disc, the goal was to develop an ultra-light, torsion-resistant, sensitive and agile frame. The design and pre-development of the Ultralight Evo made it possible to use a combination of carbon fiber and synthetic resin as the basis for the new generation of BH frames. The G7 Disc has the geometry of the G6 Pro, a sloping geometry with a raised head tube, a short rear end and an optimized seat tube that ensures a lower center of gravity and optimal maneuverability. The thinner, shorter and more asymmetrical chainstays and the design of the rear wheel brake allow the sensitivity and stiffness of the rear frame to be increased and thus improve uphill pedaling performance. The 12 mm Thru Axle ensures the optimal dimension, which brings in more rigidity and greater safety and optimizes the position of the disc brakes. In addition, no tools are required to change the impeller. The standard flat mount brakes from Shimano offer low weight, aerodynamics and a construction integrated into the frame, without visible adapters or screws, and also allow easy adjustment at the rear end.

BH Bikes Ultralight & Ultralight Evo Disc

BH Bikes has always remained true to one maxim: to build the most agile and durable bikes that make the most of the cyclist's power and convert his effort into speed. As the name of the Ultralight series already suggests, these bikes are mainly based on weight. The low weight is reflected in great climbing properties. The short distance between the axes allows maximum reactivity and vertical and lateral stiffness for dynamic climbs and precise rhythm changes. The design of the BH Ultarlight is minimalist and stiff, the short distance between the axles, the compact top tube, the stiff fork and the hardly inclined seat post additionally support the above characteristics. Ultralight can play to its strengths particularly uphill, but it also impresses on the descents with its great stiffness and good handling. The frame is manufactured using a special Hollow Core Internal Molding. This technology for monocoque frames uses high internal pressure in the mold to achieve the highest compact material density and to prevent uneven pressure distribution that leads to blisters and blemishes. The process allows control and optimization of the correct thickness of the different frame parts. The design and previous development of the Ultralight Evo and G7 Disc models have made it possible to use the latest carbon technology to achieve the performance, strength, weight and sensory objectives required of a disc brake frame. Another special feature are the thinner, shorter and asymmetrical chainstays. Thanks to the sloping geometry with a slightly higher head tube and short rear end, as well as a modified seat tube, which ensures a lower center of gravity and optimum manoeuvrability, it has been possible to build a bike with disc brakes that retains the short rear end that is typical for competitions.

The new Ultralight Evo Disc frame is based on the Ultralight Evo model. Reworked by the BH Bikes design team, the shape of the tubes and the arrangement of the carbon fibers have been optimized in such a way that the lightness and geometry characteristic of ultralight frames is retained despite the installation of disc brakes. Intended for competition and high-performance cycling, the frame is extremely light, minimalist, responsive and sensitive. An agile bike that favors shifting at a precise pace, cornering at top speed and explosiveness. Due to its great stiffness, all the energy of each kick is converted into energy. In addition, the Ultralight models have the usual features of BH bikes, such as the Di2 battery in the seat post, internally routed cables, Thru Axle 12mm, BB386EV bottom bracket and flat mount disc brakes to ensure the best performance.

BH Bikes Quartz & Quartz Disc

The new Quartz Evo Disc frame is the result of the construction of a Gran Fondo bike with the positive characteristics of BH's high-end race frames. When designing and building the Quartz line, BH focused on a responsive, lighter frame that delivers maximum performance without sacrificing stability and confidence in any ride. The BH Bikes Quartz is a monocoque frame built in 100% carbon fiber using the internal molding technique, just like the G7, G6 and Ultralight models. This innovative technology allows to control and optimize the ideal thickness of the different parts of the frame, to determine the most suitable carbon fibers for its construction and to guarantee the least overlap for extreme rigidity and lightness. The result is an aerodynamic, stable and light frame with optimal vertical absorption. Through the aerodynamic fork, which, like the G7 fork, is made from a single piece of carbon on the Quartz and is perfectly adapted to the frame, resulting in a true fusion of both elements.

Like the top-of-the-line frames from BH Bikes, the dropouts are designed asymmetrically to optimize the frame's lateral stiffness and make room for wider tires so that the bike runs perfectly. In addition, the Quartz models have a semi-slooping geometry: the rear end is lower and the lower center of gravity ensures fast reactions and maximum stability. The innovative cable routing system of the Quartz Evo Disc allows the integration of mechanical or electronic systems and guarantees the highest level of protection and reliability as well as easy replacement. Furthermore, the disc variant has brake calipers integrated in the frame for more precise braking thanks to the so-called flat mount, in which the bases of the brakes are integrated in the design of the frame. With this system, the brake is also closer to the axis of rotation of the wheel, which allows for more precise braking. The seat post of the Quartz frame is only 27,2mm in diameter, same as that of the Ultralight frame. This brings more lightness to the frame and offers more comfort to the rider.

The battery of the electronic shifting is completely housed in the seat post, which makes the system more aesthetic and functional. The Quartz Disc has the 12 mm Thru Axle that is well-established at BH Bikes and thus offers the optimum level for greater rigidity and safety. Another eye-catcher is the BB386EVO bottom bracket, an innovation developed by BH Bikes in collaboration with FSA that allows the external width of the bottom bracket shell to be increased up to 86,5mm at the base, resulting in greater surface area, rigidity and resistance. Thanks to this innovation, BH Bikes managed to increase the diameter of the down tubes by 80%, reduce the wall thickness and increase the torsional rigidity in the bottom bracket and rear triangle area.

BH Bikes RX Team Disc

Originally introduced as winter training for road riders, cyclocross has long been a special discipline. Nevertheless, the road and cross bikes are still very similar, which is why they can also be found here in our model presentation. The BH RX Team Disc was developed for racers by thinking about what the cyclists in this discipline want from their "machine", no matter what surface or conditions they find on the racetrack. BH designed and crafted the new RX Team Evo frame with the collaboration and input of some of the most iconic, demanding and experienced cyclocross riders. The best design ideas that BH already uses and integrates into the top-class frames are also implemented on the frame. The frame is a 100% carbon monocoque, the alignment of the carbon fibers in the frame of the RX uses the principles and concepts developed for the ultralight frames with a patented alloy for high, medium, and low modulus carbon to achieve the highest To meet the quality standards that BH and its riders demand of all frames. In addition, an oversize fork is installed, which contributes to improving rigidity and increasing precision. It is made of carbon and its 1,5 inch diameter optimizes rigidity, brings the necessary steering precision and avoids any braking noise. At the same time, the tire clearance is oversized so that no mud collects on the tires.

BH Bikes Gravel-X

The BH Bikes road model range is rounded off with the Gravel-X. Admittedly, as the name suggests, it is a gravel bike and not a pure racing bike, but it has earned its place in the model series today. When developing the Gravel-X, the goal was very clear: to develop a bike that takes its rider to (almost) unreachable places, that he has a lot of fun doing and that provides security with reliable equipment, no matter what the surface or how many kilometers you are traveling. In other words: This bike is the perfect partner for adventures! Regardless of whether you prefer to roll over gravel, asphalt or dirt, whether you prefer dirt roads or wider slopes: With the Gravel X you can also set the pace off the beaten track, but you can also enjoy the landscape on relaxed laps.

The frame of the BH Gravel X is a hydroformed frame made of triple butted aluminium, which offers very good stability and robustness, which seems particularly comfortable and safe on tours over bad roads and gravel. Of course, the aluminum frame is not one of the lightest compared to the significantly more expensive carbon versions. However, the weight is not necessarily our number one evaluation criterion, especially with a gravel bike, since stability and robustness are the focus. With a fork made of full carbon, the driver gets very good shock absorption despite high rigidity at the front. The geometry of the BH frame is sporty but still comfortable and designed for long tours. This is made possible by a higher head tube, a slightly looped top tube and a longer wheelbase. The BH Gravel X is therefore ideal for longer day tours or even bike tours lasting several days. For this purpose, brackets for luggage racks can also be attached to the designated points on the frame and on the fork.

When it comes to the equipment of the BH Gravel X, you can choose between three variants and thus adapt the bike to your own needs. The bikes are also equipped with wheels with 12 mm Thru Axles, which also increase rigidity and safety and also improve the performance of the BH Gravel X's good brakes.
