Cycling: Another accident with a car occurred during the training of a professional cyclist. Philipp Walsleben (P&S Team Thüringen) was knocked off his bike by a turning car last Friday. That's why the start of the season has now been postponed. Fortunately, the German wasn't seriously injured.
Rest at home instead of racing in Croatia
Philipp Walsleben actually wanted to travel to Croatia with his new teammates next week. There, where many people enjoy their holidays, the boys from the P&S Team Thüringen should really get in top form. The training camp will be held in Istria from February 26th to March 13th. Included are participations in the two one-day races Trophy Umag and Trophy Porec, as well as the small tour Istrian Spring Trophy. Philipp Walsleben will not be able to take part as planned. The German told radsport-news.com on Thursday after the tests:
“I really wanted to go to Croatia with the boys. Really stupid that I'm out now. The good news is that I don't need surgery. In six weeks I can start cycling again. I certainly won't be a couch potato for that long."
The person responsible for the accident committed a hit-and-run
So now Philipp Walsleben has to do without the all-important training camp in Croatia. The 30-year-old ex-Crosser is now aiming for his debut at the start of the Bundesliga season at Rund um Düren at the end of April. He wants to start there in a good form. First, however, it is important to rest for two weeks due to a fracture of the shoulder blade. Only then can physiotherapy begin. All because he was thrown off his bike by a car turning right during a training session in Teltow.
“I tried to brake and swerve. I thought it worked. However, I must have gotten my front wheel under the rear wheel of the car when I was leaning.”
Particularly brazen: The person who caused the accident then simply drove on. But Philipp Walsleben remembered the number plate.
"But I have no feelings of revenge now. Unfortunately, something like this happens in Germany several times a day. First of all, I would like to speak to the driver.”
