Cycling: Chris Froome (Sky) is currently facing a lot of criticism. But not everyone is against the British. Ruta del Sol race director Joaquin Cuevas is delighted with the participation of the four-time Tour winner.

Froome is back at the Ruta del Sol after 2015

Chris Froome last competed in the Ruta del Sol in 2015. At that time, the Brit from Team Sky won the overall ranking and the stage up to the Alto de Allanadas. Joaquin Cuevas, the race director of the Tour of Andalusia, is delighted that the Sky captain will be back at the start. Opposite the Spanish news agency EFE he was really excited.

First race since the World Championships in Bergen

According to Joaquin Cuevas, Team Sky signaled to him two weeks ago that Chris Froome will be making his season debut at the Ruta del Sol. The Tour of Andalusia starts on Wednesday February 14th and will end on February 18th. In a public statement, the Sky captain also commented on his first race of the season.

Chris Froome:
“I went through an intensive training session in January. It was nice to be on the bike and to cover so many kilometers. It's been a few years since I competed in the Ruta del Sol. I've always enjoyed this race and I'm happy to return.”
