cycling: The Deutschland Tour starts in Koblenz at the Deutsches Eck in 2018

February 6, 2018 by Michael Behringer

Germany tour Koblenz

Cycling: Koblenz connects. This is the motto of the city in northern Rhineland-Palatinate. In August of this year, Koblenz is supposed to connect cycling professionals with cycling fans. Then the newly launched Germany Tour will finally take place again. And it begins in Koblenz and takes the field of drivers to Stuttgart over four days.

Germany Tour 2018: From August 23rd to 26th

The Deutschland Tour took place for the last time ten years ago. Linus Gerdemann won in 2008, Jens Voigt triumphed in the two previous years. Since then, no more highly classified tour has been held in Germany. That will change this season. The Germany Tour is back! From August 23rd to 26th the field of drivers will race from Koblenz to Stuttgart. The tour will start in Koblenz at the Deutsches Eck. The day before that, however, cycling fans will be offered a lot. A team presentation is held as well as a large supporting program with an expo and children's races.

From Koblenz via Trier and Merzig to Stuttgart

On August 23, the pros set off where the Rhine and Moselle meet. After a neutralized lap through the old town of Koblenz, the fight for the yellow jersey can begin. However, the exact stage locations and profiles will not be announced until March 2nd. However, it is already certain that the cities of Trier and Merzig will also be served between Koblenz and Stuttgart. Claude Rach, the managing director of the Society for the Promotion of Cycling, is convinced of an exciting tour of Germany thanks to the route.

Claude Rach:
“Koblenz offers exactly the right setting for the start of the Deutschland Tour. A bicycle festival at the Deutsches Eck - great pictures to start with. From a sporting point of view, the route from Koblenz to Stuttgart already promises to be an exciting tour.”
