cycling: Sick Nibali returns to Tour of Oman in mid-February

23 January 2018 by Michael Behringer

Nibali

Cycling: Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida) was supposed to be at the Return to San Juan compete for overall victory. Unfortunately, the star of the tour had to cancel his participation before the start of the first stage. The Italian suffered a gastrointestinal infection, which he probably caught in the team hotel. He spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about his changed plans.

Nibali starts at the Tour of Oman

In February, Vincenzo Nibali will get back on his bike and race. The Tour of Oman will be held between February 13th and 18th, where he wants to fight for victories again straight away. After the unfortunate trip to Argentina, the 33-year-old will first travel back to Europe to recover and train. He shared his plans with the Gazzetta dello Sport via video message and how he currently feels.

“My program will not change much. My next race will be the Tour of Oman. Things like that can just happen. The virus was just going around and I sadly caught it. On Sunday I suddenly got a fever and cramps and I felt unwell. I couldn't help it. It could have happened to me at home too. But today I feel better again.”
