Spectrum: 4th German Mountain Bike Tourism Congress invites you to a professional exchange

January 23, 2018 by Andreas Waldera

Spectrum: The fourth German mountain bike tourism congress will be held in Oberstaufen in June under the motto “Growing together”. The three-day event is explicitly dedicated to project work and research on the subject of mountain bike tourism. At the same time, the event should also give the starting signal for sustainable MTB tourism developments.

The German Mountain Bike Tourism Congress invites you to exchange ideas and work together again this year. At the annual event, representatives of various interest groups meet service providers, media and stakeholders from tourism associations. The focus is on concrete project work and scientific research on the topic of mountain bike tourism. The main focus is on the future development of the industry.

Tilman Sobek, Chairman of the Mountain Bike Tourism Forum Germany, explains: “For the development of mountain biking from a tourism perspective, we have to take off our sports glasses. Of course, mountain biking has a sporting background. However, doing sport is already not the determining motive when guests are asked about their reason for mountain biking. Here, experiencing nature, enjoying leisure time, exercise for physical and mental balance and staying healthy are mentioned much more often as central motives.”

If mountain biking continues to be primarily defined by sportiness and mountains, more than 80% of potential bikers would be excluded from the development of attractive bike offers. It is also clear that mountain biking is not only practiced in the mountains, but also in the urban environment. Those responsible therefore see the future of MTB tourism in offers that are accessible to everyone. Of course, one should also take a look at the e-mountain bike.

The 4th German Mountain Bike Tourism Congress will be held from June 05th to 07th in Oberstaufen / Allgäu. Already on February 23, the Mountain Bike Tourism Forum Germany invites you to a guiding conference. After last year's stop in Winterberg, the 2018 conference will take place in Oberstaufen for the first time. Also new is the outsourcing of the guiding conference as a single date. In this way, more time should be given to the individual topics.
