cycling: Via crowdfunding to a professional contract – Le Roux to Fortuneo-Oscaro

26 December 2017 by Florian Nowak

Cycling: After a few weeks ago, the French continental team, the Armee de Terre, suddenly broke up, there were once again a few drivers without an employer for the coming 2018 season. Shortly thereafter, the 25-year-old Frenchman Romain Le Roux started a crowdfunding campaign, which has now brought him a contract with second division Fortuneo-Oscaro, for whom Waren Barguil will also start.

Romain Le Roux was able to collect a total of over 40.000 euros through a crowdfunding campaign after Team Armee de Terre, the French army team, announced their immediate withdrawal. With the 40.000 euros from the campaign, his new team Fortuneo-Oscaro only has to pay 20.000 euros to be able to afford the 25-year-old Frenchman.

“I was very moved by Romain's fight for a place in the peloton. We just had to give him a chance. But the all-rounder also has good qualities on the bike and gives everything for his captains,” says Fortuneo Oscar team boss Emmanuel Hubert, who freed up an additional place in the squad for Le Roux.

Romain Le Roux himself was of course delighted with his successful crowdfunding campaign: “I had set myself a deadline of Christmas. I continued to train normally this winter. I am very pleased that it has now worked out with a professional contract. I will give 200 percent for my teammates"

Last season, Le Roux finished fifth at the Ronde de l'Oise (2.2) and at La Poly Normande (1.1).

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
