Cycling: At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, medals are to be awarded in the men's road race on a demanding 270-kilometer course. It would be the longest race in Olympic history since the first opportunity for professionals to compete in 1996.
According to the Japanese news portal kyodonews.net, the competition will start in the suburb of Chofu and will lead past Yamanaka Lake and finally onto a hilly loop around the 3.776-meter-high Mount Fuji. The course will feature six challenging climbs, some of which will be more than 1.000 Meters up. The finish is to be on the Fuji International Speedway Formula 1 circuit. The men's race will be 270 kilometers long, which would be approximately 30 kilometers longer than at the Rio Games. The women's race will be 140 kilometers long and have the same start and finish locations. According to the news portal, the route has already been approved by the UCI, but planning will not be finalized until March 2018.
