Track cycling: Almost 3.000 spectators gathered on the 3rd day of the European Track Cycling Championships in the Berlin Velodrom. The German audience was able to celebrate a whopping six medals, two of which were gold!
Bronze for Maximilian Beyer
Today there were seven decisions on the agenda. Right at the beginning of the third day, Germany celebrated its first medal in the Berlin Velodrome. Maximilian Beyer has the points race men's bronze medal. Only the new European Champion Alan Banaszek from Poland and Niklas Larsen from Denmark were faster. The Austrian Andreas Muller ended up in thankless fourth place. In the Scratch Unfortunately, the German Romy Kasper had nothing to report in the women's race. The Swiss Aline Seitz was fifth. Trine Schmidt of Denmark secured her next gold medal after attending Day 2 already won the points race. Silver went to Tetyana Klimchenko of Ukraine ahead of Evgenia Augustinas of Russia.
Maximilian Beyer: "After my inattentiveness in the elimination race, I vented all my frustration."

Joachim Eilers & Domenic Weinstein with the next medals
At the 1.000 m time trial of the men, two Germans were able to get involved at the front. Jeffrey Hoogland from the Netherlands secured gold at the end, bronze went to Quentin Lafargue from France. Germany's Eric Engler just missed out on the medals with fourth place, but Joachim Eilers won the third silver medal for BDR. He was happy about it, although he was only beaten by 33 thousandths. In the one pursuit In the men's race, the Swiss Claudio Imhof just missed out on the medals with fifth place. The German Domenic Weinstein presented himself a little better. With third place he brought the next bronze medal to the host country. Italy's Filippo Ganna won the gold medal ahead of Portugal's Ivo Oliveira. In the Omnium of the women, Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands secured the silver medal after she Day 1 already won gold in the elimination round. She was at a disadvantage to the British Katie Archibald, who was ahead of the pack yesterday in the single pursuit. The German Gudrun Stock saved herself in sixth place after a fall. Andrea Waldis (Switzerland) ended up in thankless fourth place.
Joachim Eilers: "It's only a few centimetres, that's bloody bitter. This is now my third silver medal in this discipline. I still have an outstanding bill."
Dominic Weinstein: "I really wanted to be at the top. I'm satisfied with the time in the small final, I made a gamble in qualifying."

2 x gold and 1 x bronze at the end of the day
Despite all the medals won so far today, the highlight of the European Track Cycling Championships was yet to come. In the kairin of the women, Kristina Vogel didn't give her competitors the slightest chance. She secured the second gold medal for Germany at this European Track Cycling Championships in 2017 ahead of Simona Krupeckaite from Lithuania and Liubov Basova from the Ukraine. The Germans Franz Schiewer & Peter Bauerlein and Stefan Schäfer & Gerhard Gessler rounded off the day perfectly – in the truest sense of the word: They provided gold and bronze in the stayers. After three days, the BDR now has 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 3 bronze medals and is therefore second in the medal table! The goal "four to seven podium places" has already been surpassed … but tomorrow there is another day on the agenda.
Kristina Vogel: "Plan accomplished: I have my gold medal! There was already a lot of pressure on my shoulders. After Miri hung up her European Champion jersey before going to sleep yesterday, I was a bit jealous. Now it has worked for me too.”
