Clothing: Test: Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race - Great lens technologies and more

5 October 2017 by Florian Nowak

Test: With a slightly different, frameless design, Variomatic lenses and a stable frame, the Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race is definitely convincing in our test. In addition to various lens technologies, the Uvex glasses also have some adjustment options on the frame to ensure a tight fit.

Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race – Glass

The lens of the Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race has a lot to offer. With the so-called Variomatic technology, the manufacturer promises a complete tinting from crystal clear to pitch dark completely automatically in just 25 seconds. This also works quite well, but 25 seconds on the bike at a decent speed is a long time and the tunnel is usually over by the time the technology has completely done its job. For forest passages in summer, the Variomatic technology is still a great thing. Unfortunately, during the test, you had the feeling that the tint was always set a tad too strong, which is why you always felt it was a little too dark. The lens also has a Supravision AntiFog coating that does a good job of ensuring fog-free vision at all times without affecting the field of vision. The additional Litemirror technology offers protection against infrared radiation, which is simply reflected and thus kept away from the eye.

Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race – fit

Elastic and adjustable nose pads and side bars ensure a perfect fit, which can be individually adjusted to provide a pressure-free fit. In general, the Uvex wears very well and fits right from the start. In addition, the field of view is extremely generous due to the lack of a frame and the view is hardly impaired. An integrated lens ventilation also supports the fog-free lenses.

Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race – packaging & accessories

The Sportstyle 803 Race comes standard with a somewhat opulent hard case and in a rather simple design. As with most other manufacturers, it is important to trust something and at least be a little more creative with the packaging.

The Uvex Sportstyle 803 Race is a very solid all-rounder in our test field and scores particularly well with a wide variety of lens technologies. Even if the standard Variomatic lens is always a little too dark, the entire pair of glasses performs well.
