Test: With the POC Do Half Blade, the Swedish company has developed a pair of glasses specifically for racing cyclists. Based on the predecessor Do Blade, in which the glass is completely surrounded by a frame, the Do Half Blade is frameless at the bottom to allow a better view.
POC Do Half Blade - Glass
Glass is primarily about perspective. Here, our Do Half Blade had Carl Zeiss Vision's Green Mirror polycarbonate lens with 15,2% transmittance. The tinting of the lenses from Carl Zeiss Vision increases the contrast and makes bumps, potholes or gravel more visible. The frameless lower part of the glasses expands the field of vision downwards and to the side, the relatively large middle part to the nose pad can be a bit annoying. Nevertheless, you have a very good view of the road, unfortunately it can happen here that some spray water can get into the glasses from below. Thanks to a special Ripel treatment by Zeiss, dirt and water run off well and prevent the lenses from tarnishing.
POC Do Half Blade - Fit
The frame is primarily responsible for the fit of glasses. With the Do Half Blade, the goal was to develop a lightweight frame for racing cyclists. The material used is the very light Grilamid, which also makes the frame very flexible. The side bars can be bent slightly to have a better grip or to avoid uncomfortable pressure points. The nose pad is individually adjustable and also withstands sweat or moisture. Here it can happen that the glasses will rub a bit at the beginning because the rubber is quite coarse at the beginning.
POC Do Half Blade - Packaging & Accessories
The Half Blade comes with a neat packaging and in a nice hard case, the design is POC-typically kept very simple. In the case there is even a transparent interchangeable glass, which offers the same advantages as the tinted pane. In this case, savings were not made in the wrong place, but instead focussed on quality. The package is rounded off by a microfiber bag, which can also serve as a good cleaning cloth.
