Clothing: Test: Oakley EVZero Stride Prizm Road - See the world in HD

5 October 2017 by Florian Nowak

Test: In the meantime, there is nothing in cycling glasses that does not yet exist: mirrored, polarized, self-tinting. However, Oakley takes everything to a new level and offers a sport-specific lens with the Prizm-Road. During the first test drive, or rather the first time we put it on, we were completely blown away.

Oakley EVZero Stride Prizm Road - Lens

Looking through the Prizm lens for the first time, the difference between "real environment" and glasses view is like between HD+ and pixelated black and white television - exaggeratedly said. The specially developed tint intensifies certain colors, creating a very high-contrast image and making it easier to perceive details. Potholes or bumps in particular can be recognized very well. Even with light and shadow changes, the glass is absolutely convincing and ensures less stress in the eyes. The field of view is unsurpassed thanks to the frameless frame. You have a clear view in all directions and are not restricted. The glass has an extra coating, which is why water and dirt simply roll off. Here, too, you have the problem of an open frame, as it is easier to get water or dirt from below into your eyes or at least under your glasses.

Oakley EVZero Stride Prizm Road Fit

The frame plays an important role in the fit. With these glasses, however, there is no real frame. The entire goggle is actually just glass and side arms, as well as the nose pad, which makes the Oakley incredibly light, which is why you initially have the feeling that it could fly away with every little gust of wind or every little shock. But since this doesn't happen of course, you get used to it quite quickly. There are no pressure points, although the glasses naturally offer optimal support despite their low weight. Materials combine durability and comfort with impact cushioning designed for sport.

Oakley EVZero Stride Prizm Road - Packaging & Accessories

The EVZero Stride features classic Oakley packaging. In addition, there is the standard black hard case with the O sign, everything is very simple in terms of design as you know it. There is no interchangeable lens, as there is no option to exchange the frame construction. However, this superior lens is the right choice for road riders 99,9% of the time and doesn't need to be swapped out at all. On top of that there is a nice Oakley pouch/cleaning cloth and a spare nose pad, which by the way is the only interchangeable thing on the goggles.

The Oakley EVZero Stride Prizm Road offers a real highlight in our test field with its sport-specific glass. The view is gigantic and the field of vision is extremely wide. The very light weight takes some getting used to at the beginning, but after several rides it can definitely convince.

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
