Product news: Rotor Uno Cassette - Lightweight Eurobike Award Winner

11 October 2017 by Florian Nowak

Market: With an ultra-light 11-speed cassette, Rotor has brought a weight revolution onto the market as part of its Rotor Uno groupset. The Rotor Uno cassette in the gradation 135-11 weighs just 28 grams and was not awarded the Eurobike Winner Award 2017 for nothing.

The introduction of a hydraulic groupset, called UNO, from Rotor this spring attracted a lot of attention. If you take a closer look at the individual components of the group, the Rotor Uno cassette, among other things, also catches your eye. At 58 grams less than the Shimano Dura Ace CS-9000 (11-28T), the cassette weighs just 135 grams with the same gradation and thus sets a real benchmark in terms of weight when it comes to road bike cassettes.

The Rotor Uno cassette comes in a solid 11 to 28 gradation which looks like this: 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28, with more versions planned and coming soon. It also has the so-called UNO Freehub system, which makes it compatible with 11-speed systems such as Rotor UNO, Shimano and SRAM. The rotor cassette uses a material mix of a highly refined steel alloy and 7075 aluminum with a surface coating, which is intended to reduce friction and significantly increase service life. In addition, the cassette was able to achieve extremely high rigidity values, since the first 9 sprockets were manufactured directly in Madrid using a modern CNC system in one-piece design. This means that the first 9 sprockets are made in one piece to save weight and increase stiffness.

Rotor Uno cassette

The joy about the Rotor Uno cassette should only be somewhat dampened by the proud price of 349 euros. However, as is well known, quality and technology have their price. The Rotor cassette with its high-tech features should be just the right thing for racing drivers and lightweight construction fans in particular and should withstand some hardships due to its high quality. Despite the high demand, the Rotor Uno cassette is currently available.

By the way, we recently tested the complete Rotor Uno group!
