September 5, 2017 by Michael Behringer

Vuelta a Espana time trial start times

Cycling: Today the Vuelta a España starts the last and decisive week. The 16th stage will start with an individual time trial over 40,2 kilometers from Circuito de Navarra to Logroño. We have all start times for you at a glance.

Vuelta start times time series profile

Froome wants to make everything clear - tough fight for third place

Whether Chris Froome (Sky) will win the Vuelta a España 2017 seems to be almost a matter of form. The Briton starts today's time trial with a lead of 61 seconds over second-placed Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida). In this discipline, Froome is not only considered the strongest class rider, but also the hottest candidate for the day's win. It probably wouldn't surprise anyone if he could triple his lead. But behind it, the Vuelta a España is exciting. In the fight for the podium, some drivers want to have a serious say. Without a doubt, Nibali has the best cards, but even he can't be sure yet. Only 111 seconds separate the current third from ninth place. Even Alberto Contador (Trek-Segafredo) still has chances of a conciliatory conclusion. But who has the best cards? In the mountains, especially Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) and Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha-Alpecin) have recently presented themselves well. Wilco Kelderman from the German team Sunweb flies a little under the radar. He is currently in fourth place. Since the Dutchman not only has an increasing form curve, but is also considered a strong time trialist, he could end up being the laughing third.
