cycling: Cycling World Championships in Bergen: Van Vleuten wins gold – German women disappoint

September 19, 2017 by Michael Behringer

Vleuten

Cycling: As expected, the women's individual time trial at the World Championships was a matter for the Dutch women. Top favorite Annemiek van Vleuten was able to prevail with a lead of twelve seconds over her compatriot Anna van der Breggen. Bronze went to Australia's Katrin Garfoot. The German women could not intervene in the fight for the medals. On the other hand, Juri Hollmann just missed out on the bronze medal in the juniors today at noon. The 18-year-old German was only eight seconds short.

Oranje dominates the women's World Cup time trial

Even before the first starter tackled the 21,1-kilometer course, all the experts were certain: the gold medal can only go to the Netherlands. No wonder, because the three big favorites come from our neighboring country. Ultimately, the experts were right, but nothing came of the Dutch triple podium. While the winner Van Vleuten and the silver Van der Breggen did their job, Ellen van Dijk fell short of her expectations. The German starters were also relatively disappointed with their results. Lisa Brennauer finished 17th and Trixi Worrack XNUMXth. The American title holder Amber Neben was also XNUMXth. The new world champion Annemiek van Vleuten can only be heartily congratulated on the title after her many injuries and falls!

Juri Hollmann in the juniors on the thankless 4th place

The juniors took to the track before the women this afternoon. Thomas Pidcock (Great Britain) came out ahead of Antonio Puppio (Italy) and Filip Maciejuk (Poland) in a time of 28:02 minutes. The German Juri Hollmann was eight seconds longer than the third. The young talent just missed out on bronze. The second German starter also delivered a strong performance. Leon Heinschke finished 40th, 13 seconds behind the winner.
