Product news: Pegasus E-Bike 2018: many innovations at Premio and Opero

September 18, 2017 by Marcus Degen

Pegasus e-bike 2018: The 2018 e-bike innovations from Pegasus come up with many great innovations such as the Magura HSi brakes or a smart 750 Wh double battery. Reason and emotion meet on the Pegasus e-bike. A bike that works gets ridden. And a bike that accompanies our lives will eventually grow on us. It doesn't have to be overly sporty or super light.

At the ZEG bike show in Cologne, Pegasus presented a completely new 2018 program

What is the car that everyone covets? Definitely not the practical station wagon, spacious, economical and solid, with which we deal with our everyday life and which has accompanied many beautiful vacation trips and excursions; rather the cool sports car that you couldn't even drive the kids to school in.

And the situation is similar with bicycles: long-travel mountain bikes and super-light carbon racing machines characterize the image of what seems desirable on two wheels; but the practical use of both is minimal, and most of the time they sit in the basement. The bike that is parked in front of the house should be more important to us - the one with which we accompany the children to school, commute to the office, go to the cinema in the evening and go on a nice family tour at the weekend. This bike's downtube won't have a fancy Italian or cool American name on it - more like "Pegasus".

Pegasus E-Bike 2018: Reliable bikes at fair prices

Color and design are clearly the focus of Pegasus 2018.

The Cologne brand is neither exclusive nor expensive, and it has nothing to do with light sports bikes. However, the supplier knows how to design everyday material in different varieties - bicycles with lights, mudguards and luggage racks; E-bikes as well as non-motorized bicycles. All models have in common realistic prices, a solid design and modern technology, which of course is always adapted to the intended use. Just as an example: An eight-speed hub gear may not be sexy - but for 90 percent of all city bikes it represents the optimum and, unlike the complicated mountain bike gear, will really be used.

Another advantage of Pegasus bikes: You don't have to search for them for long. The brand is backed by the ZEG trade association with around 1.000 Specialist retailers; so there's always a bike shop nearby that stocks an e-bike from the Opero series or a chic "Bici Italia" touring bike with a retro look. It's worth stopping by – a rational purchase could lead to a very emotional relationship... Velomotion introduces six new Pegasus e-bikes for 2018.

Pegasus Electric Bike 2018: Premium E8F Comfort – €2.799

Pegasus delivers an interesting novelty with this brisk everyday bike. The new "Active Plus" drive from Bosch does without a gear stage and is therefore noticeably less resistant; with the engine switched off, this e-bike rides like a normal bicycle. The sometimes rough feedback from the drive train has also been significantly smoothed out.

The Pegasus Premio E8F (2.799 euros) is the model with a freewheel – the E8R is also available with a coaster brake.

The step-through bike with clear lines offers a second innovation: the HSi hydraulic rim brake was developed in cooperation with the brake manufacturer Magura. The fork specially made by Suntour for the new brake responds softly and offers enough travel for everyday use and touring. As the Premio E8R, the bike is also available with a coaster brake – an important safety argument, especially for older cyclists.

Pegasus E-Bike 2018: Piazza Evo – 1.999 €

With the Piazza Evo, Pegasus provides a breath of fresh air in the low price range. For less than 2.000 euros, this is a fully-fledged trekking model with the appropriate technology: suspension forks, stable mechanical disc brakes and derailleur gears are the typical features of the category; Also noteworthy is the solid pannier rack, elegantly mounted on the fender.

The Pegasus Piazza (1.999 Euro) is hardly identifiable as an e-bike at first glance.

With this model, Pegasus relies on the proven, beautifully compact Suntour hub motor, a unit that has also been tried and tested on sporty e-bikes; In addition, there is the integrated battery, which is extremely rare in this price range and which Pegasus shares with its sister brands such as Bulls. The storage, which offers a decent range with a capacity of 375 watt hours, is comparatively compact, so that the down tube of the aluminum frame is not that voluminous. Like the rear motor, the frame battery ensures that this bike is not identified as an e-bike at first glance. Especially people who use their pedelec permanently in everyday life are happy about the reserved appearance.

Pegasus Electric Bike 2018: Premio Evo 8F Comfort – €3.299

With the Premio Evo 8F Comfort, Pegasus is presenting an upper mid-range e-bike with the latest drive components. With the "Active Plus" drive and InTube battery, you drive here with the new generation of Bosch technology: The Plus motor with a new gearbox runs with significantly less resistance, which is particularly noticeable when driving without a motor - this is then practically no longer the case noticeable. The clicking noise during load changes, which is not only typical of Bosch mid-engines, is almost completely eliminated on the new unit. What has remained is the pleasantly gentle, but by no means lame drive characteristics. When starting off or going uphill, even the "smallest" Bosch motor shines with powerful propulsion.

Bosch Active Plus drive and integrated battery of the latest generation on the Pegasus Premio Evo 8F (3.299 euros)

The battery, which is available with either 400 or 500 watt hours (€200 surcharge), is invisibly sunk into the frame. In the neatly crafted aluminum frame, the motor and battery merge into an attractive unit.

The Premio also offers innovations in terms of other equipment. The Magura HSi brake system is reserved exclusively for Pegasus and its sister brands for a year. The comfort of Pegasus' new eight-speed touring bike is also right with a Suntour suspension fork specially matched to the new brakes and high-quality spring support.

Pegasus Electric Bike 2018: Premium Evo 10 – €3.299

The upright sitting position of the Pegasus trekking bike is perfect for touring riders who want to gather impressions of the landscape, and it also proves its worth in city traffic with a good overview. The bike is extremely sporty: Bosch contributes the high-torque "Performance CX" motor; With the Deore, Shimano supplies tried-and-tested gear components, along with snappy disc brakes. The ten-speed derailleur with a wide range of gears is available for everything from steep climbs to shots. A comparatively long-travel suspension fork and the solid luggage rack ensure the best touring suitability.

The Pegasus Premio Evo 10 (3.299 euros) is the perfect bike for all purposes: for city, touring or commuting

A highlight of the new model is the InTube battery with 500 watt hours, which forms a unit with the drive unit both visually and technically and leaves plenty of space for bottle holders in the frame triangle.

By the way: With a different handlebar stem, the seating position on the Premio Evo can be set up much more sportily - so even fast commuters could find favor with this bike.

Pegasus Electric Bike 2018: Opero Evo 11 Di2 – €4.399

One of the highlights in the Pegasus model range is undoubtedly this bike, which offers more state-of-the-art technology than almost any other. Let's start with the frame: Welded luggage rack and internal cables determine the image of the top trekking bike and give it a contemporary character. The seating position is tailored to comfortable long-distance riding: suspension fork and seatpost, high cockpit and pleasantly angled handlebar ends to relieve arms and wrists.

The frame of the Opero Evo also includes the power supply: up to two batteries, fully integrated into the down tube, can be carried along and, with a total capacity of 750 Wh, result in an unrivaled range. The bike is delivered with a battery; the free space can be used as a luggage compartment. The additional battery for long distances is available for a surcharge of 390 euros.

The Pegasus Opero Evo 11 Di2 (4.399 euros) likes the very powerful Shimano Steps E8000 drive and optional double battery up to 750 Wh.

The battery feeds Shimano's E8000 motor, which stands out due to its very good metering - minimal changes in pedal pressure result in fine modulation of the drive power. This is particularly useful on slippery surfaces, and in fact the motor was specially developed for use on mountain bikes. The torque that the E8000 brings to the road when needed is correspondingly high.

The rider on the Pegasus gets support not only when pedalling, but also when shifting gears. Shimano's Di2 derailleur gears work electronically, i.e. without the classic Bowden cables; which makes operation much more convenient. Completely automatic switching processes are also possible. The eleven-speed sprocket with an extremely large range of gears takes the fright out of even super-steep climbs - with the Opero Evo 11 Di2 you are really equipped for everything.

Pegasus E-Bike 2018: Opero Evo NuE – €3.899

The Opero Evo gets its drive technology from the mountain bike segment. Shimano's E8000 mid-motor with the unique Trail mode was specially tuned for tricky off-road rides; fine dosing and lightning-fast engine response are also attractive for touring and everyday drivers. The unit offers high torque, which is good for starting at traffic lights and on steep climbs.

The Pegasus Opero Nu-E (3.899 euros) likes the new automatic NuVinci gear hub and the optional double battery with a capacity of up to 750 Wh.

Behind the beautiful appearance of the Opero - the battery and drive unit are elegantly combined - there are tangible technical advantages: two 375-watt-hour storage units fit into the voluminous down tube. If you drive mainly in everyday life, you can use the supplied battery and use the free space to stow away the pump and rain cover; over longer distances, range with the second battery (available as an accessory for 390 euros) is no longer an issue.

With powerful hydraulic brakes and a finely responsive suspension fork, the Pegasus is equipped to a high standard. With the NuVinci 380, a further development of the tried-and-tested continuously variable hub gears is used, which now offers an even larger range of gear ratios. The welded-on luggage rack in the frame color is visually very successful.
