Cycling: Matteo Trentin and his team Quick-Step Floors have won again at the Vuelta a España. While the Italian is celebrating for the second time in Spain, his team is already happy about their fourth success. Together with the Spaniard Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar), Trentin was able to break away from an 18-man breakaway group. In the duel between the two strong sprinters, he didn't give Rojas a chance. In the overall standings, Nicolas Roche (BMC) gained a few seconds.
18 men set off after 2 hours
After the well-deserved rest day yesterday, the riders got back on their bikes today. The 179 remaining professionals had to cover 164,8 kilometers from Caravaca to ElPozo Alimentación. Two categorized climbs had to be overcome. The last mountain - the Alto de Morrón de Totana - belongs to the first category and was due after 143 kilometers. Since there were still many kilometers to go to the finish line, this stage was a classic part for the escapees. But it was only after 94 kilometers and a driving time of more than two hours that the 18-strong leading group of the day formed, including Daniel Moreno (Movistar), Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), Alexandre Geniez and the German Nico Denz (Ag2r). The peloton let the breakaways do their thing.
Trentin doesn't give Rojas a chance
As expected, the group at the top disintegrated on the last climb. Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar), Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors), Jacques Janse Van Rensburg (Dimension Data) and Jaime Roson (Caja Rural) were able to break away from their companions. On the descent down to the finish, it was the two strong sprinting pilots Trentin and Rojas who made two duos out of the quartet and thus brought about the decision to win the stage. Rojas started first in the home stretch. But Trentin had no trouble oversprinting the Spaniard easily and easily. The Italian thus won his second stage at this year's Vuelta a España. He also comes a good deal closer to the points jersey.

Roche escapes – everything else is the same
When the peloton was on the final climb, Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain Merida) attacked just before the summit. The Italian was able to gain a few meters ahead before the final descent. However, leader Chris Froome (Sky) and Co. were attentive. The gap was closed again about eight kilometers before the finish. Then Nicolas Roche (BMC) escaped unnoticed. The Irishman gained 29 seconds on his opponents. He's still third overall, but now he's tied with Esteban Chaves. Otherwise there were no changes in the top 10. But that should be different tomorrow. Then at the end of the stage with the Alto de Velefique and the Observatorio Astronómico de Calar Alto it goes a few more kilometers uphill for a change.
