cycling: Rolf Aldag regrets his emotional statement about Peter Sagan

July 7, 2017 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: Three days after Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) fell, Rolf Aldag spoke up again. The former German professional commented on Twitter about his statements immediately after the incident. Rolf Aldag sticks to his point of view, but regrets having expressed his opinion publicly so emotionally immediately afterwards.

Rolf Aldag continues to see Peter Sagan as the culprit

On Twitter, Rolf Aldag has again to case of Peter Sagan reported to speak. For the first time, conciliatory tones from the former German professional can be heard. Rolf Aldag now regrets making statements immediately after the incident without being informed. He wrote "I have made a mistake. It was wrong of me to be uninformed and biased in my opinions. I should have waited for the jury's decision and been quiet. I learned the lesson.” However, when asked by radsport-news.com, Rolf Aldag let the journalists know that he still believes that Peter Sagan made a mistake.

Mistake done. Wrong for me to put out an uninformed, biased opinion. Should have waited for jury decision and just shut up. Lesson learned.

Did Dimension Data not object at all?

He also insists that Dimension Data did not appeal the jury's initial decision. Rather, the jury only listened to Dimension Data: “Cavendish informed us that there was something. With that we went to the jury and asked them to look at it again.” According to Aldag, neither the sponsor Dimension Data nor the team itself had any influence on the decision. In addition, the sports directors of Cavendish's team were not the only ones who wanted to have the fall observed more closely. At least one other sports director from another team also made representations to the jury.
