MTB cycling: MTB hero Guido Tschugg is back in downhill racing - and that's right! At the World Championships in Andorra, the Ameranger mountain bike pro confidently won the title in the Masters class (over 40).
Guido Tschugg has been a professional mountain biker since 1997. The trained flight operations specialist initially also rode downhill races, but seven years later switched completely to the camp of fourcross riders. What followed were countless victories and various DM titles. As part of the World Cup, Guido Tschugg finished on the podium more than twenty times. An impressive record! In 2011, the UCI removed the biker-cross discipline from the World Cup calendar - for the then 35-year-old to say goodbye to active racing.
But now Guido Tschugg is back! In the qualifying run for the Masters Downhill World Championships in Andorra, the Haibike team rider set the best time in his class - what a debut and what satisfaction! Despite all the critics, he already showed in qualifying that he has not lost his condition by switching to the e-bike and can still really step on the gas even without e-power. During the race, the Ameranger improved again and, with a lead of almost six seconds, confidently took the title of World Champion in the Masters class (over 40).
“It was a bit unusual to be back in racing after so many years. I have to admit that I was very nervous in the hours leading up to the race – but when I was at the start, I was able to draw on my many years of experience and mental strength, and I was able to get the most out of my performance. The most emotional moment, however, was not, as expected, the award ceremony and putting on the rainbow jersey, but a voice message from my two children: Dad, you can do it - we'll keep our fingers crossed for you ... very firmly."
