Product news: Energized - 50 new e-bike charging stations in the Spessart

29 May 2017 by Florian Nowak

With the Forest experience project, the four municipal alliances Kahlgrund-Spessart, Spessart Kraft, Südspessart and West Spessart want to make it easier for all e-bikers to ride a tour through the hilly Spessart. A total of 25 e-bike charging stations will be set up in 50 municipalities.

The Spessart is known as a popular region for cyclists and mountain bikers and attracts numerous tourists every year with the many different routes for every cyclist's taste. In the low mountain range, however, there are sometimes considerable meters of altitude to be mastered in the saddle, which can show one or the other cyclist their limits. In this situation, the drive of an e-bike helps to arrive at the destination safely and with a good feeling. The WalderFahren project promotes this type of locomotion by providing a nationwide network of e-bike charging stations, which enables flexible and independent mobility by bike. However, the improved charging options for e-bikers in the Spessart and the resulting increase in cycle tourism in the region are not the only goals of the Forest experience project. In addition, a ride on an e-bike can replace a ride in a car. This means that around two thirds of all journeys can be made by bike without any problems. Thus, the construction of a comprehensive network of E-bike charging stations a positive contribution to climate protection by promoting CO2-free travel in the Spessart. Furthermore, the project can also be seen as a trend-setting step in times of demographic change. Because with the help of an e-bike, it is also possible for older people to use the bike as a piece of sports equipment and a means of transport.

Locations of the e-bike charging stations

The charging process takes about an hour if the battery of the e-bike is to be charged to a good ¾. In order to be able to use this time sensibly, all e-bike charging stations are located in places with a high quality of stay. These are, for example, central places in the villages where you can do small shopping, have a coffee or eat an ice cream. But it is also possible to charge your e-bike at restaurants that provide you with food and drink for the rest of the bike tour, or at leisure facilities that invite you to linger. For planning the bike tour, the exact locations of the e-bike charging stations can be found on the website. Some of the e-bike charging stations are attached to buildings, but some are also free-standing and attached to masts. The signposts in the villages make it easy for people from outside to find the stations. In addition, an information board is attached to all e-bike charging stations, which once again describes the charging process in detail to users and thus guarantees user-friendliness.

Important ! – Material required: charging cable

A special charging cable is required to charge the e-bike. If you do not have such a charging cable for the e-bike charging station yourself, you can borrow it from a nearby rental station for a deposit or buy it from a specialist retailer.
