Inside Blog: Team Lübbering starts the GCC season in Göttingen. At the start, two routes with a demanding profile await us. Marius, Malte, Manuela, Anna and Tanja D. try their luck on the long distance (100 km). On the short distance (45 km) the Lübbering team is represented by Tanja H., Oliver, Renzo, Merle, Thomas, Stefan, Jörg and Jonathan. The weather conditions are significantly better than last year. Although eight degrees are still relatively fresh, there is no sleet.
April 23, 2017, 09:00 a.m.: The first drivers pick up the starting documents from the Sparkassen-Arena. Gradually, other teammates arrive. One or the other strengthens himself with coffee and rolls during the tactics meeting. Then you get changed, warmed up and off you go to the starting grid. The starting signal for the 45 kilometer circuit is at 10:25 a.m. The 25 kilometer race follows less than 100 minutes later.
At first it went through the city of Göttingen at a moderate racing pace, until after about three kilometers the long-awaited neutralized starting signal was given. A few attacks were made right from the start on the short distance, but they were all quickly neutralized. After almost 10 km, three opposing drivers were able to break away on a slight climb and gradually increased their lead. The pace in the peloton wasn't particularly high at first, as most of them were probably taking it easy for the Hohen Hagen. This "mountain" is the most difficult climb on the circuit and is also known as the executioner, as it was this year.
On the climb, some riders were able to get back on top of the group. At the moment of the merger, the pace increased again and some drivers were able to clearly distance themselves from the field. Some riders were caught again on the long descent. However, a top group of three has formed again. The next field of pursuers was about 25 men strong. Unfortunately, due to the unfavorable wind conditions, we didn't have a chance to close the gap of about 15:1 minutes on the top trio on the last 30 km. Two attempts to break away shortly before the finish were also unsuccessful. In the final sprint, the grains were accordingly used up.
However, thanks to Tanja H., we were able to celebrate a great success. sprints his way to 1st place in the short distance in a time of 1:20:02,10. Manuela and Anna were able to impress with their successes over the long distance, each taking 3rd place in their age group. Unfortunately, Merle had to give up the race after 10 km due to a fall. Luckily, she didn't suffer any serious injuries, so she will attack again in the next races.
The Lübbering team would like to build on this success and we are all looking forward to the next races with great motivation. The next race in the GCC will take place on May 13th at the Hockenheimring. This promises a high-speed race, according to the motto: chain right and attack.
