cycling: Tirreno-Adriatico stage #2: Geraint Thomas solo to win the day

March 9, 2017 by the editorial office

News in brief: Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) won stage two at Tirreno-Adriatico. The 30-year-old Briton attacked just before the finish line and duped the assembled sprint elite. Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) tried to catch the breakaway but couldn't close the gap. Peter Sagan (Bora Hansgrohe) won the peloton's sprint and thus finished on the last remaining podium. Greg van Avermaet (BMC) takes over the overall standings from his teammate Damiano Caruso.
