We are still in cold Germany, but that is not a problem for us because, as we all know, there is "no such thing as bad weather", only "bad clothes".
While Kittel, Degenkolb and Co. were already collecting the first racing kilometers in Australia and Dubai, we were able to get out on the road on days with minus degrees and snow. Of course there were also days when we couldn't do any training on the road. When the weather was particularly bad, our trainer Gerald Mortag came up with varied training. And so that the strength and roller training didn't get too monotonous, we played football and basketball matches in the gym.
All athletes participated with a lot of fun and ambition.
From 1st to 12th In February I went to the first training camp on the cycling island of Mallorca to prepare myself optimally for the coming season. During the 12 days on the island I had great weather and therefore great conditions. So I was able to complete my trainer Gerald Mortag's training plan without any major difficulties – collecting kilometers was on the plan.
In order to provide variety, Mr. Mortag has incorporated various training contents, such as sprints and strength with bike, into the plan. After the 12 days on the island, my mileage balance was almost 1000 km. Now it was time to go back home, which was a bit cooler, where it was said: "Don't get sick." Because the next training camp in Croatia is only three weeks away.
At home, my training group made the best of the weather. They drove on the road as much as they could. On the days when street training was out of the question, they still met for strength and roller training together.
Before leaving for the training camp, a KLD (strength-performance diagnostics) in Erfurt is on the program for us athletes. This is done to determine the heart rate values for the different training sessions so that we train in the right areas.
In Croatia, too, it's time to collect more kilometers in order to be well prepared for the new season. Because as the saying goes: "In winter, the racing driver is made."
Our association, the SSV Gera 1990 eV, has come up with something to ensure top conditions in schools. In February, for example, we got a study and homework room in addition to a new weight room. There we athletes have the opportunity to do their homework together.
In this context, a big thank you to the company Nutzfahrzeuge Herrmann for the financing and help with the implementation of the school room, as well as to the company Nexory for providing two computers.
When we come back from Croatia, the new season will finally start.
Before we go to the first federal inspection race on April 02.04.2017nd, XNUMX, there are still one or two smaller races on the schedule where we can test our form and see how well we worked in the winter.
Our aim is to show that we are a powerful group to be reckoned with.
