Market / MTB: The 26-year-old Frenchman Rémy Métailler will be on bikes from the German manufacturer Cube for the next two seasons. The freeride star, who lives in the Canadian MTB Mecca, had previously ridden for Commencal, but had not renewed the sponsorship deal. Métailler is best known for his breathtaking videos, but is also a regular at the start of renowned freeride events such as the Red Bull Rampage.
What a coup by Cube: With Rémy Métailler, the Upper Bavarian manufacturer was able to sign one of the absolute shooting stars of the freeride scene. The 26-year-old had been on the road with bikes from the Andorran manufacturer Commencal for the past three years – but both parties ended the cooperation at the end of the 2016 season by mutual agreement. Currently, the Frenchman is working hard to make a comeback after breaking a vertebra in a failed jump at the Urban Downhill race in Taxco at the end of last season.
Métailler is known for his unique riding style, which perhaps like no other combines the speed of downhill with the style of freeride. This not only creates the countless breathtaking videos, but also puts his material to an extremely tough test. However, this was exactly one of the background thoughts behind the commitment, as Marko Haas from Cube explains: “Cube's focus isn't just on the lab tests. We also work closely with athletes and try to implement their feedback as best we can. The collected data flows directly into the development process and this way we can make sure to get the most out of every single wheel.” The weapons of choice for next season are the Cube Two15 downhill bike and the Stereo 160 Enduro for more moderate terrain.
