Cycling: The Alpen Challenge Lenzerheide will now take place on August 6, 2017, a week earlier than planned. The reason for the postponement was a planning stop on the part of the Italian authorities for the originally planned race date. Fortunately, the organizers of the Alpen Challenge Lenzerheide were able to change the date with the Andeer-Juf mountain race at short notice. The registration phase that started in November is therefore continuing without restrictions.
Despite some planning challenges, the organizers are very optimistic about the new date. OC boss Flurin Bezzola expects a significantly lower traffic volume on the new race weekend than last year on the Ferragosto weekend, especially in the Italian part of the route. Bezzola is certain: "This will definitely increase the quality of the race and the driving pleasure on the track." The organizers can definitely look forward to a very turbulent preparation phase in the coming weeks and months. “First of all, we are missing a few weeks of preparation. Without knowing the new date, we couldn't actively go into advertising," the OC boss continued. The traditional summer market in Lantsch/Lenz, which will take place exactly one day before the race event, could also be a problem. “But we definitely want to stay in Lantsch/Lenz. So there is still a bit of organizational work waiting for us. But a good solution is in sight,” says Bezzola confidently.
The participants of the Alpen Challenge Lenzerheide are offered two routes to choose from: the short distance with 119 kilometers and a crisp 2718 meters in altitude and the long distance with 194 kilometers and an even crisper 4235 meters in altitude. The decision as to which lap is eligible can be made by the participants during the race. The number of participants is limited to 1500 starters.
