Product news: Suunto expands Spartan collection with GPS watch with optical heart rate measurement

26 January 2017 by Andrew Waldera

Market: In the summer of 2016, the Finnish innovation company Suunto introduced the Spartan collection to the market. The Suunto Spartan solution includes not only the Suunto Spartan GPS watches as a complete package, but also the revised Suunto Movescount.com and the mobile smartphone app for iPhone and Android. From spring 2017, the series will be expanded to include the Spartan Sport Wrist HR. The special thing about the new Suunto GPS watch is the optical heart rate measurement.

The Spartan Sport Wrist HR was developed in cooperation with Valencell. The US market is recognized as a leading pioneer in wearable biometric data sensor technology. The new GPS watch from Suunto uses the Americans' patented biometric PerformTek measurement technology to measure heart rate. However, there is still the possibility that the Spartan Sport Wrist HR can be used with traditional heart rate sensors.

The new GPS watch, which will be available in three colors, is equipped with the same multisport features as the Suunto Spartan Sport. As a member of the Spartan collection, compatibility with the Suunto Movescount Service and Movescount App is of course also guaranteed. The manufacturer will announce further product details shortly.
