Cycling: German champion André Greipel (Team Lotto Soudal) started the 2017 season with a win on Mallorca.
As in 2016, the reigning German champion André Greipel won the first of the four one-day races, which are combined as the Mallorca Challenge. After 161,8 kilometers with the finish in Campos, Greipel was the fastest and was able to win the day ahead of Belgian Jonas Van Genechten (Cofidis) and Briton Daniel McLay (Fortuneo-Vital Concept). After a leading group of four initially dominated the race, it finally came to a mass sprint.
