Cycling: Yesterday the jersey and the team of Katusha-Alpecin were presented in Spain. The German-speaking newcomers to the team were also there: Tony Martin, Rick Zabel, Marco Mathis and Reto Hollenstein. The new team boss José Azevedo commented on all the newcomers.
Jose Azevedo on Tony Martin:
We have different goals for all drivers. When we sign a rider like Tony Martin, who's a four-time world champion… with all his race wins… who's one of the best riders in the world, we're thrilled that he's joined the team. We have goals for Tony and he knows we believe in him. He hasn't had his best year this season, but we know he can do a lot better. I think the team change will be very motivating for him.
Jose Azevedo on Rick Zabel:
Rick is a young rider who can become a very good sprinter. He will ride for Planckaert, but he will also ride in Kristoff's group. This is good for him to learn. In this way, he can also improve his own results in the future.
José Azevedo on Marco Mathis, the Belgian Jenthe Biermans and the Dane Mads Würtz Schmidt:
Mathis is a world time trial champion. Basically, we cannot expect these young drivers to achieve important results at this higher level. Our job for these guys is to give them the time they need to develop and work on them improving. Of course we welcome it when the good results come automatically because of their talent. That would be nice for her, but it's not a goal. We are patient with our younger drivers because we expect them to have a long career ahead of them.
José Azevedo on Reto Hollenstein:
Reto is a driver with a lot of experience in the big races, in the classics. I think he will be able to support Alexander very well. I like what I see.
