Cycling: The BMC Racing Team can look back on an extremely successful 2016 season. Although the team has suffered some painful departures, the signings could bring more balance than before. As before, Olympic champions Greg van Avermaet and Richie Porte will ensure the great successes.

BMC Racing Team 2017: Team bikes and equipment
BMC will provide the only remaining pure factory team in 2017. Unsurprisingly, little or nothing will change in terms of team bikes: In the street races, you will still take a seat on the Teammachine and Granfondo cars that were only presented last season. In the hunt for the clock, however, there is an innovation worth mentioning with the new Timemachine. The new time trial machine presented at the Ironman Hawaii should also carry Rohan Dennis and Co. to a few victories again in the coming year. As in the last few years, Shimano is fully trusted when it comes to equipment and wheels in the coming season.

Product news: The new BMC Timemachine - triathlon specialist with a heart for time trialists
Market: As part of the Ironman Hawaii taking place this weekend in Kona, BMC presented its new triathlon and time trial bike, the BMC Timemachine, on site today. Even if the name and appearance are reminiscent of the previous model, a lot has happened with the specialist. Thanks to years of development work, great progress has been made, especially with the seating position. BMC Timemachine 2017: adjustability […]
BMC Racing Team 2017: Van Avermaet, Porte and delicate bloodletting
The BMC Racing Team looks back on a season of rollercoaster rides. However, fourth place in the WorldTour Team Ranking should provide overall satisfaction. Of course, Olympic champion Greg van Avermaet played a particularly large part in this. With his gold medal in Rio, the Belgian outshines all his team members. In recent years, Van Avermaet has always been a bank for top placings, but it was never enough for a really big hit. In 2016 the time had come. He alone ensured six victories and seven further podium finishes. Whether the knot has finally burst for him and he will ensure numerous successes again in 2017 can certainly be assumed. But of course, Team BMC didn't just consist of Greg Van Avermaet. Richie Porte in particular was also able to take a step forward in 2016. Nevertheless, he remains the champion of the week-long tours. After many disappointments, the Australian is still waiting for great success on a three-week tour. But this is to be expected, because Porte only seems to lack consistency over three tough weeks. He always has the potential to win the Giro, the Tour or the Vuelta on his bike.
Tejay Van Garderen and Nicholas Roche are notorious as eternal talents. The times when they drove around the world as young drivers are long gone. Unfortunately, they were never really able to live up to their advance laurels. In 2017, too, they will probably take on the role of helper for Porte, but they will certainly also be able to drive to victories in some stages. Taylor Phinney and Philippe Gilbert will no longer ride for BMC. The BMC management certainly hoped for more from these two. With Rick Zabel, a German talent also leaves the team. Erik Zabel's son is moving to the Katusha-Alpecin camp. Marcus Burghardt would like to support Peter Sagan at Bora-hansgrohe in the future. Darwin Atapuma will also be absent from BMC. The Colombian was among the rising stars of the season in 2016 but now joins TJ Sports-Lampre. The talent scouts can be particularly excited about Kilian Frankiny. The young Swiss talent was raised to the pros by the BMC Development Team. He is already being compared to Alex Zülle, as he is said to have what it takes to be a first-class tour driver. All in all, Team BMC loses some well-known drivers as a result of the transfers. But many of them could not keep their former achievements or their promises. Thanks to the down-to-earth newcomers, it could even be the case that BMC will be able to repeat the good season performance of 2016 in the coming year.
